*** Big Fat Weight Loss Thread ***

I've got my figures to try out starting tomorrow so it'll be interesting to see whether the science works or not. I'm looking forward to scoffing 2400kcals with a pizza and stuff and not feeling guilty about it. :D

It might be the key to stopping my binge eating for a week or so every month knowing that I can eat more on two days a week and therefore get away with a bit of carb heavy food.

I think 5-2 is eating less on two days a week ;)

I'm not really bothering with that now. The calculator isn't a suggestion for 5-2 or else that would be something like 800kcals on two days. I'm going to follow my own calculations based on the ones that the website gives me (I put in light exercise 1-3 days a week).

So you can see with "My Zigzag" I'm roughly in the same ball park. I'll let you know on Monday 15th Feb what happened. Thursday and Sunday are my Huel days so that's why I put them so low.

I've got McCain crinkly home chips in the freezer that are amazing and I haven't had a single chip since I started this diet nearly 4 weeks ago. I've been dying to eat some. I think I'll treat myself one night. :D But a decent amount of them on a plate is about 800 calories! And I could easily murder 1000 calories of them. So can only do that now and then.

While my diet is going well, I've had a few messages come up from myfitnesspal when I add food saying my goal is to stay under 2300mg sodium. Tonight my sodium was 2345mg and I hadn't included some 60% reduced salt I'd poured into boiling water for spaghetti. Does jogging burn away sodium with the calories?

Do you find yourself eating lower carbs on reduced calories? I wouldn’t worry about sodium intake. With less insulin present, your body will be weeing more sodium out. And you’ll be certainly sweating it out during exercise.

Thanks, that's what I hoped to hear. :) As far as less carbs, certainly that's been my goal and I've been purposely cutting down on them. For example I reduced the amount of spaghetti and doubled the amount of mince beef for higher protein. The only bread I've had since I started the diet has been Livlife seeded bread which was recommended to me for dieting as it has very low carbs and double the protein of all other bread. Very small slices and I eat a couple of slices most days. I haven't had any carbs messages come up on myfitnesspal yet, so I guess I'm doing ok for that. I've been eating ryvita, low fat cottage cheese which tastes much nicer than I expected, celery, fruit, brown rice, grilled mackerel, greek yogurt, chicken legs (I remove the skin) and a crunchie or double decker most nights. :p

A discussion of temporary weight loss came up in the Huel thread and I threw in what I thought was quite interesting about my experience last week -

Just as an interesting note on weight and water loss... Last Wednesday morning I was 15st 7.4lbs, then Thursday afternoon I did a 3.5hour indoor cycle, (Strava said it was my highest ever Relative Effort) which almost killed me! I sweat so much, gave so much effort... then out of interest I jumped on the scales right after and I was something like 14st 12!!! (or maybe it waved around 14st 13 and 15, I forget now and didn't keep it). The next morning I was 15st 2.7 and by Saturday I was 15st 3.9, so as I rehydrated, the weight mostly came back.

I recently watched 'Power' on Netflix, where the MMA fighters would 'cut' on weight in day, losing 10+ lbs in a day. I now see how easy that could actually be! :)

Woa, now that's impressive stamina! Legs moving continuously for that length of time or with some breaks surely? Didn't you get bored, particularly being indoors with no scenery passing by? For that level of effort it's almost criminal the few pounds of weight you'd lost had mostly returned. But how's your weight today, presumably you've lost at least a real pound of weight?

He probably ate enough afterwards/before to negate any weight loss. I think @AndyCr15 is at a level he's happy with so is just treating that as a workout rather than aiming for fatloss. Similar to someone running a marathon, they don't want to lose weight from it.

I hate indoor exercise like that, but i think a lot of people do it whilst sticking a film on etc

Ah yeah, I think watching something on tv would greatly help. There's also a computer game type app I've seen for running on a treadmill which replicates a course with interesting scenery.

Nice tip, I do miss having a butty or toast so this low-carb bread I shall try to procure.

I get mine from Waitrose, £1.55 a loaf. Here's the post from the La Cuisine forum that recommended it to me:
If you have access to a Waitrose (and they have it in stock), I highly recommend Livlife bread.

https://www.waitrose.com/ecom/products/livlife-seriously-seeded-sliced-bread/869667-288713-288714

One of the lowest carb commercial breads out there, and it isn't ludicrously expensive.

Whilst a slice might have twice the calories of a Ryvita, the macros are way better and will be more satiating than said Ryvita slice.

Protein and fibre keep you feeling full, and Ryvita is 25% when you add those 2, whereas Livlife is 39%.

207lbs last Monday, the heaviest I've ever been and a real wake up call. I'm stuck inside so have been sitting around far too much and eating junk. Got a grip now, 10k steps a day on the treadmill, no snacking, 16/8 IF and huel for one meal. Installed a step counter on my phone while I wait for a Fitbit to turn up.
Down to 204lbs today, target is around 177lbs...

Strava i assume?

That's an interactive virtual world. It was initially for cycling but they added runners. The cycling platform makes it feel real so as you go up hills it will adjust the resistance on the bike to make it feel realistic. It's good, but i found the novelty wore off.

Guys, I'll try and find the video I watched which showed a bit of that interactive course. I just remember it showed coming down some steps from like a grassy area onto a beach and there was a dog and man walking along the beach in the distance for added detail and realism.

And if you are wanting to splurge on the odd treat, these are pretty much the best low-carb bread things you can get short of baking your own:
https://seriouslylowcarb.com/collec...-food/products/seriously-low-carb-large-rolls

Less than 3g per roll, super filling, have a burger with this and some salad and you will be stuffed.

Awesome! I might buy some of those. Haven't had a burger in weeks, so that would be lovely. Weighed myself this morning, down to 12 stone 9lbs so have lost about 3 pounds or so in the last three and a half weeks.

Going for a jog now in the snow. :)

No, my actual riding time was just over 3 hours. I had one reasonably long break of about 20minutes, for a coffee and brownie, at around half way, then another break at the 3/4 point. I think I did stop a few times for a few minutes near the end as I was feeling sick and also my legs wanted to cramp up, so I stretched them out a couple of times.

Didn't you get bored

As someone mentioned, I had a few TV shows to watch.

He probably ate enough afterwards/before to negate any weight loss.

I kind of exercise to mitigate the days I end up eating too much... so, given I have my goal set at 2,980 -

Wednesday - 2,870 in, 192 out (short home workout I think) = 302 under
Thursday - 3,252 in, 2,045 out (the 3 hour ride) = 1,773 under
Friday - 2,737 in, 0 exercise (I was suffering!) = 243 under

It's good, but i found the novelty wore off.

For me it's not been any kind of novelty, it's just making it more realistic, which it does a pretty good job of. At the same time, I don't like cycling indoors compared to outdoors (when the weather is nice, of course) but a decent trainer and setup is making it more bearable. The one advantage of Zwift is the racing/structure. I am a competitive type, so do enjoy I can race against others... even if I'm generally at the back somewhere!

Yeah, i think if you're a cyclist anyway it certainly has it's place to keep fitness up during bad weather.

My issue was probably that i wasn't a cyclist, so bought a turbo and a cheap road bike especially for Zwifting, with the intention that it was a good secondary exercise to backup running. I enjoyed Zwift but after a while it bored me as felt quite repetitive and so i switched to TV shows, before giving up entirely and selling everything!
