Big Fight: Mayweather v Marquez

Pac vs Mayweather will be an entirely different fight. Pac's superstar status will force Mayweather to weigh in at a disadvantaged weight and won't just be a few hundred grand compensation if he goes over like he did with Marquez. If Mayweather weighs in more than he should, I'm sure the fight will not go ahead.

I don't think Pac has much superstar status to be honest. His PPV ratings are really quite poor. Of course this isn't helped by the Philippines not having PPV.

Neither Mayweather or Pac are huge draws and both rely heavily on their opponent bringing in the fans. If Cotto v PacMan is on PPV it will bomb.

Both are too greedy and I can't see the fight going ahead. I think Pac needs Mayweather more than Mayweather needs him. He seems to be looking for the big name fighters whereas Mayweather was more than happy fighting less of the big names.

It will be too huge a fight for it not to go ahead. What the public wants the public gets.

Pac vs Cotto is on PPV in USA. You could still buy tickets for Mayweather vs Marquez right up until the night. Pac vs Cotto sold out in a day or two.

Good fight in as much as, Mayweather really is the best boxer around. Don't like people calling him a boring boxer though, for me, watching him fight is fantastic, everything he does is just about perfect. I'd far watch a fighter like him, brilliant offensively and defensively, than watch someone like Calzaghe throw a million of his tappy crappy punches in harmless combo's that still score points.

While it was completely one sided and Marquez had absolutely nothing to show in that fight, it was still a superb showcase for boxing, he's a real boxer with probably no match. I can't see Pacman coming close to be honest, maybe pick off a couple of rounds but still think it would be incredibly one sided.

In a perfect world you'd see some more combo's from Mayweather, but you can't really do that against the best opponents as you leave yourself too open for too long. Theres very rarely a true champion with a real title, who isn't a superb counter puncher, theres a very good reason for that.

I don't think anyone around now could come close to beating Mayweather, he's just too damn good. Unless he fights on for another 4-6 years and someone new comes up the ranks he'll remain unbeaten and unchallenged till he retires, probably for the 9th and final time by then :p

I really don't see how you can say Mayweather is an exciting or entertaining fighter... he does all his entertaining shooting his mouth off pre and post fight, in the ring it's nothing but jabs. He's good with it, and it's going to allow him to keep winning yes, but it's not even remotely interesting. If he got into a couple of all out wars once in a while, his following would grow instantly, there's a reason why so many Mexican fights are so well loved by so many, because they aren't afraid to go toe to toe and trade. Mayweather is afraid, scared of coming off worse and looking bad and taking any knocks to his self image.

Or Mayweather would have fought a lot better opposition ;) Public also wanted to see a Mayweather Oscar rematch.

Pac/Cotto/Mayweather ... none are Big PPV draws, I don't think there are any left in boxing any more. I'd be extremely shocked if Mayweather v Pacquiao got anywhere near the PPV figures for Mayweather v Oscar

I love watching Mayweather.

I prefer to watch boxing than brawling, it's why I watch. And I'd imagine big fans of the sport really enjoy watching him, because he is almost the perfect boxer. Also, why would he want to go toe to toe, when he knows no one can beat him if he boxes them around the ring? It would seem like a completely pointless risk.

He wins by outboxing them, in a sport called "Boxing". Shock!

Everything that goes on inside the ring is boxing, don't presume to dictate due to your own preferences, what the sport should or shouldn't be. Mayweather has a particular style of boxing, not 'the' style of boxing.

We're obviously not going to agree on this but your poorly veiled snipe:

I'd imagine big fans of the sport really enjoy watching him

has annoyed me.

He's an exceptional boxer, there is no question about it, but the only thing standing in his way from being known as probably the best boxer of all time (or at least one of the best 3) is him not cleaning up the welterweight division.

I don't for one second question his tactics in the ring, he does exactly what he has to do to win with no unnecessary risks. If he has to make it boring so be it, he does it and wins on points. Nothing wrong with that at all. But being very selective about your opponents and not really fighting the real tough competition out there means he can't be classed as 'great' as he would like to think he is.

I would like to see him face Mosley, Williams and Pacquaio. I say Pacquiao because of his speed although I think from the 3 he will have the least chance of winning. All very different fighters but all who would test him and bring something different to the ring. You can even throw Clottey and Cotto in there but I think the first three would be good fights, and if Mayweather won he would truly go down as one of the best boxers in the history of boxing. I can't see it happening though.

Cotto to beat Pacquiao I think, by KO.

We obviously aren't going to agree.

And also, that wasn't a "poorly veiled snipe" - It was a poorly worded comment, one is meant to cause offence, one isn't. Mine was the latter.

Sorry.

Public also wanted to see a Mayweather Oscar rematch.

No no no they don't

That was THE biggest disappointment in boxing of 2007. It was horrible to watch and probably did more harm than good to boxing in general.

People who don't usually watch the sport would never watch another fight after watching that.

I want to see a rematch of Mayweather vs Hatton.

Really? Why

What makes you think the outcome would be any different? If anything Mayweather put on a below average performance that night, and still beat him, if Mayweather was using all of his footwork as he can do he would jab Hatton down to a bloody pulp.

But then again I don't like Hatton as a fighter and think he's a very over rated angry, wildly lunging bear, with crap balance and a poor guard.

TBH, the best fight in Boxing has been made right now for me, Pacquiaou Cotto will be an epic and is tough to pick a winner from. Mayweather can do what he like, as technically brilliant as he is, it's excitement that puts bums in seats and without a real killer instinct that is where he struggles.

Also, as great as he is, a WW like Hearns would have destroyed him. All I want to see from Mayweather now is a fight with a good welterweight, not a 140lb fighter blown up or a 130lb fighter moving three divisions in a year and a bit.

Personally, I really hope Cotto beats Pac, that way Mayweather will have zero excuse to duck him, it will make Cotto a megastar and create a big money fight.
