Big Tech Authoritarianism

Feels like a lot of "The Sun" readers frequenting this thread. The echo chamber of your local barber/ working mans club closed must be having quite an impact.

Do you mean forming an opinion through a broad range of views from a broad range of people? Which will not be able to happen if you shut people down however nutty they are.

If you don’t read the Sun where on earth do you get you’re hair cut? asking for a friend.

Huh, what on earth is an "alt-fact".

I don’t agree or disagree with any position but everyone should be able to voice theirs and everyone should be able to read and understand any opinion or fact.

It is truly disturbing.

1984 was meant to be fiction

If Twitter/Facebook was a state run platform then your 1984 reference might hold weight, but as they are private, it's not really comparable.

A government forcing privately run entities to publish material, especially lies coming from the leader of that very government is far more authoritarian than allowing them to enforce their agreed upon terms.

Lets be clear, he wasn't censored. He violated (repeatedly) Twitters terms. They tried fact checking him, they tried removing the worst of his posts but ultimately he insited violence on their platform so his account was terminated.

Try repeatedly breaking OCUK posting rules and see how long your posts and account lasts.

All opinions should be allowed, no one should be "banned", it's the whole de-platforming culture, it's toxic... it clearly doesn't work, if anything it allows further entrenchment of views.

I should be allowed to view/read your crap and then say it is crap. Simple as, it's really not difficult and not worthy of such lengthy debates. Let's just debate the views not whether we can have the views or not.

Why was no one defending Abu Hamza's right to free speech when he was arrested and deported to the US?

Don't get me wrong I don't think it's wrong he was arrested etc, I just want to know if OP was as concerned

People will just ignore that valid point.

Don't want to be banned from twitter, then don't incite the riots that led to 5 deaths. It's not difficult. Trump has been given far more freedom to say / do anything he wanted on that platform without being banned. He's had his special privlieges for long enough, more than anyone would ever get on any private platform.

I'm not surprised he's been banned. Good on Twitter. It's their platform, don't follow the TOS then bye bye.

His banning is not an attack on people's freedoms but a necessity to protect others. It boggles the mind anyone would challenge that.

Should posts on ocuk never be deleted then, no matter the content?

President or not he's not owed a platform on a private enterprises back.

44 Presidents before him managed getting their message to the people using other means just fine.

I think when a privately owned company of a communications platform becomes one of, if not the largest platform on the planet, then what ever information it passes should be unfiltered, good or bad yet within the law. If they start to censor part of it in a biased fashion it will cause problems.

Facebook isn't just any old social media platform, it's become one of the largest communication platforms in the world, used by hundreds of millions of people.
