Biggest 'WOW!' factor from a component you've upgraded?

Biggest and "bestest" was going from:

AMD K6 500MHZ
64MB RAM
10Gb HDD
CD Drive
WINDOWS 98

To:
P4 1.9GHZ
512MB RAM
40GB HDD
DVD/CD-RW
WINDOWS XP

I think the extra RAM was good but it was the not crashing 5 times a day because of XP that made it the best though! :D

Dial-up to Broadband (even if it was only 512K) was also one of the best upgrades, EVER!

Also, going from Geforce FX 5200 to X850XT PE was AMAZING!

....Going from 1GB RAM to 4GB in Vista also saw a pretty big OMG in speed...

Other than that going from 17" CRT to 19" LCD was good and then to 24" LCD was better.

Quite a few things have "WOW'd" me :D

Oooo that reminds me of the first day of the internet at all (i was like 6 and my dad got it to work from home in the early 90's) that was a fun day!

probly when i went from my tnt2 to a radeon 9000 or from my x700 to a x1950
and cpu it have to be when i went from my xp3000 to my core 2 duo

I would have to say Voodoo 2, I skipped the Voodoo 1 and got the PowerVR instead, big mistake, had the Matrox Mystique with the Voodoo 2, which was top of the line at the time.

Going from a 17" tft to the NEC GX2 20" screen. The colours, blacks and everything was just soooooooooooo nice.

I reloaded loads of old games just to play them in all their glory.

Two things for me, back in the day when i added a couple of Voodoo II's, i was totally taken back by the graphics upgrade, coming from a PCI Savage you can understand why!

Other has to be the upgrade from a 17" IIyama CRT to a 18.1" Samsung LCD, cost me a small arm and a leg got it when the screen first came out, response time sucked 25ms but the colours still remain the best of any LCD i've ever used / owned.

Spent far too much money on Computer gear, worst upgrade i ever did was going from an overclocked 2.4Ghz P4 running at 3.2ghz on phase to a 3.06Ghz P4 (When they first came out) cost well over £500, fair enough it allowed me to get to just over 4ghz and have one of the fastest overclocked P4's for a while but man performance wasn't all that diff from the original cpu.

PII 400mhz to an Athlon XP2500+ @ XP3200, it's fair to say I noticed a bit of an increase in speed that day... The graphics were still lame (MX420) but once upgraded to an extreme budget FX5700le and overclocked it was a nice system to use. (Honest guv)

Matrox Milennium G200 -> Diamond 3D Voodoo2 12MB SLI

Oh my gosh! Look at all the beautiful coloured lighting! Games almost started to look cartoony as they previously looked so bland in Software! Also allowed Halflife to run at silky smooth framerates with beautiful colour using Glide or Open GL. Direct 3D back then always looked blurry :(

Also Geforce 2 -> ATi 9700 PRO.... Im sure many if that era will agree, the 9700 was a legendary graphics card only to be even competed with over A YEAR(!!) after its release and arguably put ATi in a truly competitive position with NVidia. That puppy lasted me over 4 years of decent games. :D

My first 3d acceleration card, a Power VR card. It made a big difference at the time on Quake II coming from software rendering using an ATi mach64 2MB video card. Later I got a Voodoo 2 which was better but didn't seem like as big of a leap in IQ.
