What would people consider too high mileage when it comes to buying a bike secondhand? A lot of the bikes I'm looking at within my budget tend to be anywhere between the 15-40k mark.

I wouldn't really want to go over 20k myself. That being said, I've seen 6k mile bikes in worse condition than 30k+ bikes, so you really just have to go see it and see the service history, check the MOT history, etc.

What age? And how many miles will you be doing on the bike?

If you're going to be putting 8-10k a year on it, then something with 30k already on the clock is going to be a bit high as by the time you've have ait a couple of years it'll be on 50k. But if you're only doing a few k a year you'll barely hit 35k miles.

They tend to be from the late 90s to mid-2000s and I'm only going to be putting up to 5k per year on it - if that, only looking at owning for 2 years as I intend on passing the unrestricted tests as soon as possible.

Ah, so you're looking at 10-20 year old bikes? Buy on condition then, even a 40k mile bike will have only done 4k miles per year, which is about average for a bike. If there are a lot of 30-40k mile examples on ebay that normally means it can handle the miles with ease.

Only other issue I have is that due to being on an A2 the vast majority of the bikes listed are illegal for me to test ride; good job I've got a friend with a license but don't want to be leaning on him every time I see a bike I like!

Hopefully everyone got through today without getting a blowy off of Doris ;)

Unlike this poor bloke..

Was posted on Facebook group 'Aprilia performance' not a nice thing to come home to.

Poor guy! I was very picky were I parked mine out and about yesterday as some of the gusts I;m sure would have pushed it off the side stand.

My bike is coming up 62K miles. But tbh it's well past that as the speedo isnt working so the tacko isnt turning

Reading all these stories about roof tiles falling off and fences smashing bikes up makes me cringe.

There was someone on the SV650 Facebook group with two massive dents in the tank from a roof tile - sad times. :(

Was that the blue curvy? Only seen the picture didn't catch the story, looked very sorry for itself.
