Bikers Youtube thread

I do the overtaking trick and it is effective. When I'm in the car I find it infuriating when a biker does it to me on a single carriageway and never overtakes when I move over. If I'm following a car and don't want to overtake I ride in the middle of the road or hang right back. Rant over lol.

I don't like that though, your pootling along at a fair distance behind a car and they decide to drive near the curb to let you pass, even waving you by sometimes and I don't feel like overtaking at all just happy to pootle

I think they panic if they see a bike in their mirrors

The funny thing is, when I just want to ride relaxed slightly below the speed limit along with the traffic people literally go offroad to give me way and I'm there in the middle going back more so he stops... they still carry on. When I twist the throttle all the way, they just won't give way. So annoying... :p

Yeah some drivers do panic and wildy swerve to the left when they see you. I see some dodgy overtakes by bikes sometimes, my ride home includes a nice wide SC road and bikes very often will overtake with stuff coming the other way. Not for me, thanks. All it takes is an arctic a few feet towards the middle of the road and it's all over.

It's when they're up my back end and riding the edge of the white line that it annoys me, they're so close it's off-putting/dangerous. Either overtake or back off imo. Generally I prefer to not move at all as one day there will be someone on a push bike on the inside and they'll get flattened.

Cars shouldn't move over anyway, let the biker decide if they think it's safe or not to overtake, cars moving over could potentially cause themselves a hazard.

Yep, and if you're in a line of cars leave enough room to the car in front so if the bike does overtake he's got plenty of room to slot back in.

Riding by the white line and on your rear right wing is the overtaking position, meaning someone in that position is generally looking for a gap to make an overtake.

Is the myth about going from side to side to warm up tyres false? I remember reading or hearing somewhere that its much better to ride faster and brake harshly in order to warm up the tyres before having some fun in the twisties. :p

Ahh, the old waggle :D I do sometimes do it out of boredom, or loosening up after riding in a straight line for a while, or if I've been through some water/mud and want to make sure the tyres are clean.

I very much doubt it does much, if anything to warm up the tyres.

This says it all. :D

If its good enough for the F1 boys..... :p in reality any friction is going to cause heat so it cant hurt, but I am sure I read a comparison years ago that building up your speed and braking on back roads before going all out warms your tyres better than a blast up the motorway, which is what plenty of people think warms your tyre up but in reality the sides are fairly cold in comparison.

Yeah braking warms up the carcass of the tyres, as the brakes get hot they heat up the inside of the wheel, which in turn heats up the whole tyre. Obviously this applies to cars more than bikes. Weaving about will heat up the surface of the tyre, but you want the whole tyre to be warm, not just the top 1-2mm.

Whoooops....walks off whistling

Didn't know they had insurance assessors that work so quickly on the IOM?! Written off?
