Bikers Youtube thread

How many times are you going to make the same mistake going around the corner? :p

Well we were on the track for 45 minutes and I showed almost every muck up.

All my perfect corners (all 3 of them) would have made for a boring video :p

You should see some of the other guys' videos! One got hit in the head with a tyre!

They don't work like that.

I know, they use to have geared gokarts 2T with bigger CC engines, but people were stupid and crashed them at higher speeds so they swapped them with some crappy 125cc 4T automatic gokarts. :(

Still looks fun, got to work on your Tokyo Drifting skills though. :p

What exactly is happening here? I've had momentary front end dodginess like that before coming off a corner.

Front end is unloaded due to rear suspension squatting under acceleration, causing the front wheel flap about.

The horrible surface on those cement roads the Yanks love isn't helping.

I have an old GSX1100 that did a milder version of this under similar acceleration and much worse when you shut the throttle and the weight came back onto the front wheel.

Steering damper fixed both.

Shimmy, Tank Slapper, High Speed wobble... people use different terms but they all refer to the same thing. Google 'Shimmy'

Ah interesting. I believe I've had it coming out of rumble strips on a kink that you have to turn slightly on, it was quite odd as I'd left the strips but the handlebars were still going mad!

What's the best thing to do then? Hold on and hope it sorts itself out?

I've only ever had a minor shimmy once and just relaxing my grip on the bars sorted it.

Stupid TomTom and it's "winding road" feature took me on some seriously dodgy roads. Perfectly good smooth hairpins followed by an immediate transition to grooved mountain roads designed solely for for tractors!

On the SV before it was restricted the front went really light under heavy acceleration and when I went over a pothole or white lines whilst overtaking it sometimes did a wobble. But I usually relax my hands and let go of the throttle... the bike corrects itself. ;)

Although the front suspension will have become more unloaded (Although not seemingly in the power band/gear for topping out) - On that bike, in those circumstances I would expect the rear suspension of the bike to be extending/rising and not squatting.
