New Speed triple R

It's good that they've nailed the throttle mapping, I may have to get a test ride in the summer when I'm deciding what bike to buy as a second summer/touring bike :D

That's not the new one with the completely new engine is it? I think that's due in 2017 along with the 800cc Street Triple.

It will be worth waiting for the completely new model.

I doubt they'll release a different speed triple a year later, wouldn't make sense. There's a fair few changes on the new one, enough for it to be more than a simple facelift. That'll be the speed triple for the next few years at least. Although if the rumors around the street triple are correct and it's going to be 125bhp, it's not much less than the speed at 140bhp.

It's been in the works for a few years already, with a completely new engine pegged for a 2017 release.

Triumph are pretty far behind in the litre naked bike category (just look at the MT-10), and it's their chance to bring the Speed up to scratch.

This 2016 Speed Triple with those "104 changes to the engine" are all minor, and it's the same engine they've had since the modern Speed launched in 2005. It's not generating the power it should, they're struggling to meet the EU emissions without crippling the engine and it's heavier than it should be.

This is far from the first time Triumph would have done this, they did similar with the Street Triple in 2012 with the half-way house update they did for 1 year only. I should know, I own one of the awkward buggers :p

The new Street Triple's do look awesome, but it's worth keeping an eye on the new Speed to see if it has a similar step change in performance as it's rumoured to have a 1299cc lump planned.

Hmm, maybe the new speed will be launched at the end of 2017 and released 2018 then? I do agree, even though it looks newer and different, this new speed triple is basically a big facelift. Power needs to be 160bhp+, quickshifter + downblipper, lose 20kg of weight and a complete re-design of the bike is needed to really compete with the big boys. A fully spec'd S1000R with sport package, electronics suspension, cruise control, gear shift assist with 160bhp is £11,875 OTR - when you compare the speed triple S at £10,200 (no ohlins like the S1000R) it's not quite up there. Just a shame the S1000R is an IL4.

Maniac : o

Had go on a SX125 2015 model the other week at our local motocross track. Put my RM125 2006 to shame lol.
Would never ride one on the road however, would be thrashing its nuts off everywhere with the gearing.

Have been looking at the 300's would be a good thrash about around the countryside where I live :)

I was considering the EXC 125 as my first 125, although those rebuilds scared me off. :p
