First world problems but..
Anyone else have annoying bin collections? For the last few years we've had 3 bins, general waste, recycling, and garden waste. Now the council have given everyone two food waste caddys, one slightly bigger than the other, and changed the collection days for everything. It used to be simple enough, general waste one week, then recycling and garden waste the next. Now this is the new schedule, which considering quite a few people round here either forget to put their bins out or have overflowing bins every week is going to cause carnage :D
I've had to stick the letter they sent up by the door or I wouldn't have a clue. :p

that doesn't seem well thought out, some weeks they're doing a full run to collect just the small food waste bins. Also waste collection every three weeks seems a bit long.

My thoughts too. The food caddy is very small, so a collection just for those seems a bit daft. One of our neighbours has an overflowing waste bin every week...
God today is peak mumsnet isnt it
Only in your head.

My council does general waste and card recycling one week, tin/glass/plastic the other.

We also have food bins, but they are useless, and foxes constantly break them open and food waste gets strewn everywhere.

This is why we installed a waste disposal unit in the sink for food stuff, best house purchase we have ever made.

Fairly sure, with ours, the food waste has its own collection round. Like its own dedicated truck. So no need to match up with other collections.

Ours is currently every other week between black bin and green/blue.

We dont have separate food waste collections, everyone just lobs it in the garden waste bin......

would be fascinating to know how much food waste they expect to collect to justify expense of caddy & its collection,

We just have vegetable peelings / egg-shells , occasional piece of bread gos to the birds, so nothing substantial a pig, say, could live off,
Do RSPCA standards allow pigs to be fed on .. what .. uneaten fast-food.

Our food bin goes out on the same days as the general waste or recycling bins but is done by a different collection truck. Usually the food bin is collected before 9am and the other bins around 11am

Also, the smaller food bin goes in your kitchen then gets emptied into the larger bin for leaving out to get collected.

My Mum insists on deep cleaning all our recycling before putting it in the bin.

I have tried to explain 'they clean it' but to no avail. :o
I rinse the cans and other food containers before chucking in the green bin, because otherwise the green bin starts to build up with rotten food remnants, creates an awful smell, and I have to clean that nasty ******.

We are on fornightly.
That's the limit.
Some peoples black bins are overflowing from that.

Black bin - fornightly
Garden - other fornightly
Food - weekly
Recycling - weekly

People will just start burning thier rubbish.

Yeah I am fine with that bit. Bit of a wash but not a deep clean. :p

I put them in the dishwasher. Our recycling goes in bags (seems a watse) so I'd also not want food waste building up in there.

My wife says ‘why don’t we have a bag in the (large, outdoor) food bin’. Why would we? It’s a bin, I don’t care what it’s like inside.
We've bought bags for both sizes of food caddy, otherwise they are going to stink in hot weather. Not that our neighbours will bother of course.
