Bin collections

I bet no two councils have the same refuse/recycling policies - including the colour of bins, boxes or bags.

One council area I lived, when there was no extra charge for garden bin, we put cardboard into the same bin. Paper was in a box with cans.

my dad gets an email from the council every week (just need to register/sign up) that tells you what bins are going out, think they have 3 or 4, green being the latest one for plastics I think

mines is easy - one bin emptied every week

5 bins here, it's ridiculous how much room they take up. Landfill waste wheelie bin, Bottles/cans/plastic wheelie bin, Paper/card/cardboard box, Green garden wheely bin and the small brown food bin. South Bucks council.

Landfill one week, all the others the next week.

Ours is
Garden and kitchen waste every week.
Paper every 2 weeks glass, plastic and metal every 2 weeks.
General waste every 3 weeks.

Works really well here and has done for years.

Ours is weekly general waste, every two weeks for recycling & garden waste (pay extra).

The recycling has to be sorted into reusable bags for glass / metal, cardboard, plastics and paper which is a faff on windy days when your scouring the neighbourhood for your bags once emptied.

The council have put the contract up for renewal and were due to go every two weeks for recycling, general waste and garden waste however the reusable bags are going to be replaced with wheely bins.

My council does general waste and card recycling one week, tin/glass/plastic the other.

We also have food bins, but they are useless, and foxes constantly break them open and food waste gets strewn everywhere.

This is why we installed a waste disposal unit in the sink for food stuff, best house purchase we have ever made.
Which brand did you buy?

I'm in a flat - there's a poster on the bottom floor about putting recycling in the blue bin, there's not a single blue bin for any of the 3 blocks of flats :p
Had the same problem with my flat in Leeds. Two large communal bins for rubbish but nothing for recycling.

We did our bit as my ex had to leave at 6:30am on bin day. We used to fill a couple of bags of recycling for whatever they did. He walked past a few recycling bins and put our stuff in them. No one asked what he was doing in the 20-21 months we lived there.

Why do councils not cater for residents in flats for recycling? Ok if have separate entrances or like me, have a communal front door with one neighbour

Central Beds here. They collect the black bin every two weeks and the recycling bin every other two weeks. The food waste is picked up every week. We don't have glass bin collections in my area so we have to dispose of those at a supermarket or the local tip. The council also do the green 'gardening' waste every two weeks in the late spring through to early autumn I think on the same two week rotation as the recycling bin. I don't have a green bin but then I don't have a garden big enough to fit a green bin. :(

The council do a calendar showing the rota but I find it easier to just set up events in my Google Calendar and it pops up every Sunday to remind me what to do that evening for the Monday collection.
