Binding of Isaac - Price and date announced!

I've completed the regular 8 levels a number of times (over 10 anyway) but Sheol? Only reached the boss once and I should've won had I not used the Bible and instantly lost 12 hearts. Since then I've never even come close to winning it.

Agreed with FT, I search every room unless its Sheol (where getting to the boss asap is the best plan) and maybe leave some rooms if I'm low on hearts in the latter few levels.

The only person I know that has mama's boy used a dodgy glitch to make himself invulnerable :p

It must be absolutely impossible to get it without that.

Mama's boy will be easier to get than the depths, as once you can afford to get hit, you will have two item rooms plus two shops to get additional items before reaching the womb.

I thought mama's boy was the "entire game without being hit" achievement? It's been a while so perhaps I'm getting mixed up.

Thats what I thought, though it seems the description has been changed looking at it now. Not sure if they mean to complete the whole game up to that poin without taking damage or if it just means to complete the individual stage without taking damage. Seems to be the latter given the description now.

I've no idea what he means by being able to afford getting hit though

Well once you have the achievement for the depths or say you get hit in the depths then it's not a problem as you can still get the womb achievement.

Obviously while trying to get the dark boy achievement your aim is to get straight to a boss battle and not explore the whole dungeon. If you get hit then you can afford to explore all rooms to max your stats as much as possible, before attempting the womb without damage.

I don't really follow it either but I'm massively sleep deprived :p

I sorta see where you're going but I don't get how that makes Depths harder than Mama's Boy though.

If its true that you don't have to bother about avoiding damage in earlier levels before you hit The Womb to get the achievement then yeah, you can explore all earlier levels fully. But the Womb isn't exactly an easy place to avoid damage short of a perfect game where you get a short route to the boss without tricky rooms, you know the route from treasure map etc and you have a very powerful collection of buffs for killing enemies and avoiding damage.

A few reasons why the womb is easier:

  • You can collect more powerful items before reaching there, plus greater chance of having the compass/treasure map by then.
  • You almost always get Scolex as the 1st boss, he is incredibly weak and very easy to avoid his attacks.
  • Mums heart is an easier boss than Mums foot. Apart from the two eyes at the beginning, you can easily avoid being hit, especially if you have any bombs left.

I already mentioned the first point, but the chances of you getting such good combinations are fairly slim. It is quite possible in the Womb that you can get battles with enemies in random rooms where avoiding damage in the first few seconds is incredibly hard.

As for Scolex. Yes he is a pitifully easy boss but its also quite possible you'll end up against the other bosses such as a Horseman which are harder to avoid damage on.

As you said for Mums Heart, the eyes can be a problem, but she can also respawn them during the fight and catch you off guard. Your best bet is a trip when you have the Bible, unless you get a particularly broken combination like charge shots + triple shot.

I almost completed the womb without damage yesterday, got to mums heart with:

Demon Baby, robo baby, money = power (50 coins), compass, map, mums contact and little gish. must have been 1mm left on the health bar when a random fly exploded and hit me from no-where... was soooo raged.
