BitFenix Prodigy Mini-ITX Cube Case

Hey

I put this a thread of mine but i thought i would put it here too.

Quick question, if i wanted to use the Antec 920 instead of the H100 would a 230 intake and the 120mm exhale through the 920 be ok for temps in the Proigy?

Cheers :)

In my opinion yes, but i think i would have the 920 in a push pull configuration (intake) and then have the other RAD as the exhaust... But it depends on whether you value your CPU or GPU temps more as to which way you go.

Hi guys,

I bought one of these last week and should be putting my build together tomorrow. It's as follows:

i3-2120 (stock cooler)
8GB (4GBx2) Corsair Vengeance
ASRock B75M-ITX Motherboard
MSI Radeon HD 7850 OC
BitFenix Prodigy (White)
Kingston V200 128GB SSD + a few 2.5 inch mechanical drives and going to gut a 1TB WD Elements for this.
No ODD.

I've got a couple of questions, actually.

I'm thinking about trying to overclock the 7850, and wanted some advice in regards to cooling. Basically, I'm wondering where the best place is to put an accessory 120mm fan? Mainly wanting to bring down temps for the GPU. I think my main options are:

-Put one in the top
-Put one in the front
-Put a large (i.e. 230mm fan in the front) and place the one that's already there in the top

I'm on quite a budget and have already gone quite a bit over (that SSD wasn't meant to happen and the GPU was meant to be a 6870!) so am looking for the best bang for my buck.

Also have you guys got any tips in particular for where to hide cables? I'm thinking fan wires and the side panel ones are going to cause most problems.

Thanks in advance,

-Harry.

You're never really going to be able to hide the side panel cables because you're going to have to be able to remI've the panel easily if you want access. If you hide them etc it might hinder this.

If you keep the lower HD cage in, there is a small space between that and the PSU housing you can fit thin cables.

Will this case fit a Corsair HX 650 Modular PSU? I am building a new Ivybridge gaming PC and this case would allow me to take my pc places. Do you lose performance with mITX?

As long as the PSU isn't longer than 160mm, it should be fine.

Shouldn't lose any performance. I have my 2500k clocked at 4.7GHZ on a ASRock Z77E-ITX and a gtx 670 overclocked also. :)

Wow that's insane, there is no need for huge case anymore, the Antec 1200 seems excessive now. Would you say you can take your PC to your friends house, is it small/light enough?

Small yes. It's not the lIghtest with all the kit in it, but manageable. Mine is watercooled so there's a some water being carried too!!

Great little case! I came from a NZXT Switch 810! Lol

I have two SSD's a 120 and a 240GB drive in the case.

I then run a 2TB and a 1TB in an enclosure. I'll eventually get a decent NAS setup as the HD's are the noisiest part of the build!!! Once in a NAS I'll put them in a seperate room.

You should easily be able to air cool in this case. It's compatible with large tower coolers also. You just have to be careful of the motherboard socket placement.

If your not water cooling and keep the drive bays you have enough space for 3 hard drives and 2 side panel mounted ssd's you could fit more easily.

This case is super easy to move around, obvoiusly a lil heavy if you water cool it but yah.

I have a 3570K in mine and a GTX580 :P its a beast for such a small system.

Also this,

The motherboard if you buy a asrock z77 like me and spaz you will have issues lol with the back plate how ever most other mobos will be fine.

The case itself allows pretty much the biggest tower coolers you can think of inside it.

There are really only two decent ITX boards at the moment.

The ASrock X77E-ITX and the ASUS Deluxe Z77 ITX Board.

The ASUS has better CPU socket placement compared with the Asrock.

The Asrock has a msata connection on the rear of the board which can cause issues with certain back plates.

Personally though, I prefer the layout of the USB 3 and Sata connectors on the ASrock board. :)

The ASUS has come fancy daugher board connected to it (VRM?) - but tbh I've had no issues overclocking the ASRock board. So far at 4.7Ghz... I think that's more than plenty!

Awesome I'm definitely going to go down this route, excited! Does the new cpus kill the need for a northbridge? I noticed these ITX boards don't have heatsinks around like 775 boards, is that why we can have small super gaming PCs now?

How about putting the bitfenix in a backpack and biking 20 miles?

You'll need a pretty hefty back pack!!! I wouldn't fancy it! lol

I could certainly weigh my case in a few days once I have it apart again to change some stuff about.

It will be the full weight though. You can them simply remove the weight of 1L of water. :)

Then it'll give you a good idea of a complete build weight.
