Black Friday Deals

Not sure why y'all putting tinfoil hats on. It's friggin Amazon. You think they can't afford to make ~200 quid loss a few teles?

I mean it was a bang average 50 laden with spyware to get you to sub to more Amazon junk.

TV's like that are perfect for bedrooms or kids rooms though. We have a 65" LG Oled in our living room.

I am just annoyed because our kid broke his and even though it is perfectly functional for him to watch Peppa pig the OCD in me cannot be happy that I have a slightly faulty TV in the household!

Yes it is a good price. It might not be it's 'best ever price', but it's still a good price. You even say 'sometimes more expensive than it's been in the past' which by definition says conversely sometimes it's never been this cheap. How can that not be a good time to buy?

As I said before, also with so many items being at either the lowest they've ever been or lower than they have been for most of the year, it makes sense to wait for BF to see if what you need will go cheaper.
Not only that, say something matches the lowest price from 2 years ago, you could argue it is a better deal now due to inflation.

pretty sure it's a new drive that hasn't been out long and probably the fastest on the market
That's true but except for professional workloads you wouldn't be able to tell them apart side by side. They both have high quality TLC NAND with the same endurance rating which is the most important thing.

I realllly like Samsung drives as they have features that I love but the SN850X is still an excellent drive and very aggressively priced.
What features do Samsung drives have that you love?

Very good software and very high-quality NAND.

Nothing wrong with WD or Crucial but with Samsung, you always feel like you're using a higher-quality product.
Samsung have had some pretty massive firmware issues recently, nearly all my drives are Samsung but that feeling of a higher quality product is just that, a feeling, I don't think it's backed up in any meaningful way.

I think you need to understand that all companies make mistakes. Good companies fix their mistakes.

I also never said perfect and am aware of the firmware issues. They’ve all been resolved as far as I am aware.

I’ll still prefer Samsung if I have the money.

I think you need to understand good companies test their products and fix their mistakes before rolling out their product.

Samsung managed to have such poor QC their 980 Pro would brick itself and the 990 Pros were irreversibly showing their drive health dropping off a cliff. 870 Evo had a batch with bodged firmware that would error or just plain die. They don't seem to be changing their ways.

Trying to paint them as higher quality product than other high end manufacturers is a fantasy, in fact I'd think in recent history Samsung has the worst record for problems with their consumer NVMEs.

Managed to bag an honor pad 9 android tablet for £100. Can't think of anything else which comes close for the price.
Not the best tablet by any means, but good for the money.

How did you manage that ? I got one few months ago £140 I think it's great for media consumption which is what I bought it for

Picked up some Scarpa Mistral hiking boots for £100 + 8% TCB from Millets. Really good deal considering these retai at £175 and its rare you get such a large discount on Scarpas

20pc cashback on ebay at quidco this time.

Found another coat I wanted. The retailer has a shop on ebay and it's same price. So. It'll know 30 quid off.

Nice

One deal that had me tempted was the pixel 7 for £300 at the local electronics takeaway, but by the time I saw the deal it had sold out.

Luckily a friend picked himself up a Sammy S23 and sold me his (scratched but fine) S21 for £100, as well as giving me the 12 month Disney+ code he got with it (not contingent on the sale of the phone!) as he already had it through another source.

Still might be tempted to pick up a 2-4TB nvme for a games drive, but need to do some testing to see if I need a new motherboard, which will affect my Gen3 vs Gen4 decision

There have been a few things on Amazon I've bought during the year on deal prices, where they've been at the deal price say £50.99 most of the year with the odd spike up to as much as £75 but the Black Friday deal is £59.99 with £71.99 crossed out and stuff like that :s and several things where the BF deal price has been on deals on that item at least 3-4 times in the last few months.

Got a proper deal on an Olight torch which was genuinely 30% off the normal price, and some random bits and pieces where I didn't really care which were a few quid off the normal price. But sadly not seen anything even close to a decent deal on anything I wanted and/or I'd already bought at the BF deal price within the last few months on other deals...
