Blackberry 9900/9930

Personally i think dual cores are more of a fad than actually required, maybe helps a little on flash sites but my Nexus S copes plenty well enough and they're a battery hog anyway. 8/10hrs battery life on my 1ghz Nexus S is pathetic and that is with little use.

I also don't see the point in 1080p video on a phone or really high mega pixel cameras, again the quality on all phones is less than impressive anyway. Personally i'd rather use my dedicated 1080p camcorder and digital camera for good quality pics.

I've had so many phones including all the iPhones, a few Androids and i always go back to the BB.

Give me the finest phone keyboard on the market, days of battery, super secure, and the class look of BB's over fancy OS where you don't use 90% of the stuff anyway.

Although i cant work out why they have lowered the battery mah on this model than the 9780 which has a lower spec.

Pretty much the same way i feel although im a bit naughty and use an iphone4 for my games and music....my 9780 is my daily driver/workhorse.

They have gone with this battery due to this being the thinnest BB that they have ever made...when it comes to battery life RIM know what they are talking about...i imagine they will have tweaked or are tweaking the radio stack so that it performs better. As long as i get a full days use out of it then ill be one happy bunny...lets just hope that when it is released that the battery is good enough...

I wish the blackberrys that I've owned had decent battery life! Although I guess having it on vibrate does kill it somewhat.

My 9700 is always set to vibrate and the battery still lasts at least 2 days, I played about with a mates spare iPhone 3G recently and was lucky to get 10 hours out of it absolutely useless for day to day use.

I've owned 2 9700's and both have only managed around 18< hours (actually, thinking about it, they didn't even last that long. As I made them automatically turn off at 12am and on again at 7am). I guess I've just been rather unlucky!

my 8800 is rather good but then it should be - it's not even 3g.

I'm not sure the web browsing on the 9900 will be such a great experience on that screen. on my own phone its just far too small. although the 9900 is a higher res screen, that just means everything on it will probably be smaller. next to any 3.5" screen or bigger, its just no comparison. I also don't like the keyboard or the touch pad on the current BBs. I prefer the keyboard on my BB and i dont get on with the touch pads at all. They are better than the balls though (at least they aren't notoriously unreliable, unlike the rollerballs).

With medium use my 9780 will run for at least 2 days compared to my nexus s which lasts about 8.

It's great having all these fancy features and lovely big screens but if the phone can't last a day out and about it's no use.

It used to drive me mad, charge at night, flat by 8pm

Surely an iPod touch would be best for you if you already use the BB for phones purposes?

I know someone who got one of these but it wont load webpages for them just emails. Says no suitable wireless connection, wrong package?

Can these phones ever use home wireless or is it always done via the phones service provider

Originally thats what i was going to get but decided on the iphone4 as i have a 2nd tmobile line which only costs me £10 a month and gives me unlimited texts with 300mins of calls...i use whatsapp to stay in touch with my iphone friends,...makes life easier for me and them although i have whatsapp on my BB, i hardly use it.

So you know someone who has one, when it hasnt even been released to teh general public??...if he has one then he must be a network tester or works for RIM, highly unlikely as they are under an NDA;) and i dont think any UK networks have them for testing...only network ive heard who has them for testing is AT&T in America but who knows.

Once they are fully tested then yes they will be able to use both mobile and home wifi networks...why wouldnt they?? as most BB's have a wifi chip in them.

Like i said highly unlikely he has the 9900 as its not even out...he might have another BB device which in that case he needs to talk to his network and get them to put him on a BB data plan.

must be a slightly older model :o

I will get them to test the wifi part down mcdonalds unless that also needs to be unlocked. Salesman had already promised that it would load webpages, not sure if that means its just capable or ready to use

Ok but if he doesnt have a specific Blackberry data plan then it wont work...he might get lucky with the WIFI but that cannot be guaranteed.

More info on the battery within the 9900/9930

http://crackberry.com/blackberry-bold-9900-9930-battery

And just to add some more info...listed on the voda website as coming soon:

http://shop.vodafone.co.uk/shop/mobile-phone/blackberry-bold-9900

A few errors there lol...its not BB OS 6.1 but BB OS 7 and its not dual core as much as people want it to be lol...fail voda:p

Hopefully out by June/july latest....ill be buying one sim free though as always.
OS6.1 = OS7. They just decided that the step up from 6 to 6.1 was big enough to warrant a new version as its the start of QNX.

The 9900 is on the Blackberry UK homepage now as 'coming soon'... Hoping this appears in time for my Aug upgrade with Orange :D

Yep a lot of people saying around summer time ie August time is when it will be available...might be even sooner.

Waiting to see what the prices are sim free for it, probably around £500 i reckon...if so i might get my brother to pick me up one from Canada and send it to me like he did with my playbook.

Very tempted with this seeing as I will likely be carrying a Macbook Air most of the time in the future so my app needs on a phone go way down. While at uni I won't need satnav so google maps will do...

All I use android for is texting, talking, web browsing, and angry birds when waiting for things. A BB should do most of this more reliably and the browsing can mainly be done on the macbook, and angry birds... well, lets say i can survive :p

Does BB support mobile hotspot?
