Blackberry 9900/9930

Any idea why Twitter won't sod off and leave my 9900 alone? I've removed the app from BB World and it's not showing as installed under the local apps list, but the icon keeps coming back into my All menu, even after I've hidden it. Seems to happen every time I reboot the phone, but it's appeared again just now even without a reboot. Same goes for Orange World, although not an app as such, the icon keeps bouncing back after I hide it.

Try using Blackberry Desktop Manager to remove the Twitter app. Find it a lot easier and works better than just using BAW.

You give us too much credit ;) Out of interest is the music through the deezer panther module? I really want to test this but staff accounts have the new panther options disabled and my wife chose badly lets say.

The deezer app is great - I think - unlimited downloads and streaming all included in my panther tariff? The selection is not as good as spotify but if it is unlimited it's great. Got myself a 16GB card and have downloaded about 30 albums so far. :)

You get two swapables on Panther, the other one i've chosen is sky sports tv, but I cant get that to work, stays buffering. When I get a chance I will call 150 to find out the problem

Not sure if deezer's allowance comes out of your allowance/package or not, we are extremely tight fisted for a "virtual" product (I don't really believe in bandwidth selling) so I'd check your allowance on the orangeworld "your orange" page to be honest. Works without login from your phone which is nice (although it always says my balance is £9,500 so i tend not to trust it too much)

Internally it says regarding deezer:
All the Swapables and Extras work over WiFi and some are free to use over the Orange network (except where you need to download an app from your device market place). Terms apply.

Which is so ambiguous it's untrue. It links to the Terms here which are also useless so sorry I'm not sure :/

Yeah, theres not much out there about swapables, I guess they are new
I'm downloading all over wi-fi, to play when out and about :D

While everyone seems to be on the topic of swapables I just upgraded to a 9900 on a panther plan myself. Im currently unable to access them on orangeworld and online it says something about an activation text. How long did it take anyone else to get theirs working?

Less than 12hrs iirc but as always, if you don't get em working within a day call CS and they will be happy to help. Pretty miserable to see BB sales pre and post incident, the 9900 will probably recover by xmas though, it's a blinder of a office phone.

If I move emails into subfolders within Hotmail via the internet, should they be following on my BB? I know this works under Folder Redirection if you're working off a BES, but emails I've filed in Hotmail are still sat in my inbox on my BB.

Also, stuff I'm deleting from Hotmail is still showing on the BB too.

Assuming you're running BIS, this isn't the case. BIS uses POP3/IMAP to download the emails from your email server, whereas BES syncs your BB with an Exchange server or similar therefore meaning it syncs emails, folders, contacts, calendars and much more.

HTH

So I can just delete them out of my BB mailbox once I've moved them into subfolders within Hotmail?
Yes as long as you only delete on Handheld. When you delete you should have three options:

1) Delete on Mailbox and Handheld
2) Delete on Handheld Only
3) Cancel

Not sure what happens if you delete on Mailbox once putting things in Folders, but for you to rid them of your BB just delete them on handheld. HOWEVER if your mail goes automatically into a folder on arrival into your Hotmail inbox then IIRC you will not get it on your blackberry.

I moved a mail into a subfolder in Hotmail, then deleted the same mail from my BB inbox and it's still in the Hotmail subfolder so I'll do this from now on.

its still a standard blackberry and they really need to move on if they want to keep up with the likes of android and apple

Personally I think that the BB 9900 does everything I'd want a phone to do, email, calls and the web browser is much better than Blackberry have had in the past.

I've yet to see a similar form factor Android phone which is anywhere near as good as a Blackberry (as in QWERTY), most of us have bought this not because of the software or OS but because of the keyboard, a market RIM seems to have cornered at the moment.

That said the early signs on their next gen QNX look good, its not been a massive seller but the Playbook OS lookls really slick and snappy, if they can successfully get that onto Smartphones then I reckon they can give Apple and Google a run for their money.

As others have said, the reason I got one was just because of that, I wanted a standard Blackberry and not an Android or iPhone :)

I had an android handset but returned it as I didn't like it for various reasons.

The 9900 does everything I want, how I want it to, and it does it very well.

My wife has had her Android for a couple of months and has had enough of it so will be buying the new curve that's just come out.

Android and iPhone are great for people who use the device as a full on mini computer to do all sorts, we however just don't use them like that. It's a communications device to me, email, sms, phone, with a bit of web browsing thrown in very occasionally. Apps etc are lost on me, after trawling the app store when I had the Desire S I struggled to find anything that I actually wanted to use.

I agree as a company RIM need to do something to move on to catch up for the masses who want all these fancy things (well, they might not want them but they have been todl that they do ;) ), but for me I'm happy with what they are doing now.

Are any of you guys using a screen protector with your 9900? If so, can anyone recommend a decent one? I'm dreading the day when I drop it or put it in the same pocket at my keys by accident!

First I wanna say thanks for the advice on helping me get my swapables sorted out. I called and its fixed now.

Secondly for anyone who wondered about the deezer data use I just called orange today and they categorically told me that as long as im inside the UK the data used by swapables including deezer is separate from my 1gb allowance in my contract and is unlimited. So have fun downloading whilst roaming I guess orange people.
