Blackberrys.................

looking for a new phone now as my nokia 5800 touchscreen is pretty dead at the moment, just come across blackberry as HTC and iphones are way out my price range.

whats better between the storm2 and 9700? the touchscreen on the storm2 must kill the battery faster right?

Not really...the touchscreen doesnt really imapct the battery life...well on mine it doesnt but hard useage ie calls, emails, texts and BBM kill the battery off...the battery on the Storm2 isnt that great especially if you have a lot of apps.

And just to clarify the Storm2 isnt really a touchscreen..its touch in that you touch where or what you want ie apps etc but then click down on the screen to make the selection...its not as precise as say the iphone or android devices but i get on well with it...i suggest you go to a vodafone shop and see if they have one on display as it may not be your cup of tea...some people love the Storm2 ie me and some cannot stand it.

As for the 9700, i own one and i have to say as much as i love my Storm2...the 9700 is my daily driver...its small, light and just feels nice in the hand especially if you have small hands...the trackpad is awesome, much better than the old trackball...the screen is gorgeous as well...very bright and vibrant. The battery life on the 9700 is immense...i really dont know what BB have done but geez it just lasts and lasts whereas my last device the 9000 BOLD i had to charge every single night same with my Storm2. I get a good couple of days useage out of my 9700 before i have to charge it.

But my advice is to try both devices out ie vodafone carry both the Storm2 and 9700 and usually their stores have them on display....so try before you buy.

Well it doesnt come with a box or charger ( I always lose them :() but does have a new fascia and is unlocked so probs looking around £130 or so. As I say, gf is still deciding if she wants it so will let you know :)

Hi mate, any update on whether you're going to sell it or not?

Need to know :)

Blackberrys seem to be the phone of choice for air headed females these days. They've all got 'em.

LOL cant disagree as i see plenty of these girls rocking BB's...which makes me think apple must be losing a good portion of their sales to BB's if their targetted group is these air headed females.

For me its great because i get to talk to them about it, as im a BB man through and through and also have got quite a few PIN numbers so BBM is a cheap easy way to keep in touch with them;)

Guys, what are the account requirements in order to use push email on a blackberry?

I have a virgin.net account and with my previous handsets I've used either pop/imap but I've had to manually connect to be able to receive them...

Cheers, SW

Virgin expect to add BIS for payg and sim only in the next few weeks. No firm date yet, but I received an email saying to ecpect it soon
No idea on cost £5>7 per month at a guess

Just got my blackberry 9000, trackball is a bit iffy (bought from ebay) might buy another to replace.

Now time to call up orange and bargain with BiS :)

Also, i don't have a charger for it, only the USB cable, but it says it's charging when plugged in, it's been on 30% for like an hour now whilst charging :S

Yeh trackballs on the 9000 can be a bit hit and miss..over time they start to wear out but you can replace them if you feel up to the job.

The USB charging does take its time...due to the voltage its outputting...takes forever....just buy a 9000 charger, they arent that expensive in all honesty.

guys the 9700 supports out of the box doc/xls/ppt/pdf files , right?

They are supported but you wont be able to edit them...if you have documents to go standard edition on your device then you can read them but will not be able to edit them...in order to do that you need to buy the premium version...which isnt cheap.

i dont mind editing them but i am seeing posts that the phone cant handle pdf files at all , unless you buy 3rd party application like beamreader etc.

http://supportforums.blackberry.com...0;jsessionid=58849959F1C457C6EBEDB61AFA676A0C

i just want to store them in the memory card and view them later , if necessary .

Not really sure about pdf files...i dont get any on my BB so i cant comment if they are supported....according to your link you can email the pdf to yourself as an attachment then view it...other than that you will have to either buy the software to do this or try and find a free version of a pdf reader...which i dont think there is.

Nope the 9700 won't read .pdf files!... I found this out the hard way!, it knows what they are, but unless you have the 'Premium' version of Documents to Go or beamreader then they're just taking up room on the card!..

There must be a freebee .pdf reader out there but I've not found it yet!...

Otherwise I'm VERY happy with my 9700.. much better than the Toy that is the iPad Nano.. I mean iPhone! :D

Are you sure about the 9700 not being able to open .pdf files? My 9700 can open .pdf files from emails.
