The 3080 will be solid for a while yet, just gotta keep games tucked inside its 10GB vRam buffer but not too hard if you don't mind tweaking the odd setting

could be something as simple as someone looking at P/E multiples
from my understanding there was nothing specific that led to its drop. Its certainly not bad performance by the company or any specific market dynamic. It could be driven by the fact there was considerable sell of of shares by momentum buyer in order to profit from. I think Mr leather jacket man also sold a large amount of stock too. I could be wrong but if he sold all his sock he could earn over $100 billion.

What I meant is that I'm done with regular upgrading and unless prices become reasonable again I'll be upgrading once every 6-7 years.
I feel the same. My 5800x3d and 6950XT combo will most likely be kept until RDNA5/RTX6000 series at the minimum unless pricing somehow enters the realm of reason. Feel free to quote and make fun if I somehow fall in the trap during that time
The market deciding that the shares had undergone too much of a bull run, when considering profitability and future potential of Nvidia, leading to many investors selling of their shares thereby depressing the price per share.

Next lot of cards will be cheaper and faster than most people think (I'm dreaming). Nvidia have extra silicon waiting on a use after the AI hype train derailed and they need to maintain mindshare and market share with gamers. Or something... Here's hoping.
I can't wait for the 5000 release so my friend can upgrade his 4090 and I can buy that for dirt cheap
