Bladerunner 2 (Spoilers!)

On a side note, does anyone else find Deckard's character in the original sort of... boring? He literally does nothing throughout the movie except get beaten in almost every encounter.

that's intentional, IMO

Deckard is just following his "programming" and doing his job with little or no personality or human emotion, killing just because he is told too

The Replicants are shown to be more human than the humans, looking out for each other, showing remorse, Roy even saves Deckard at the end..

Its a sort of "who is the real monster/more human" type thingy

Christopher Nolan is an 'auteur' (despite disagreeing with the theory), and he made a trilogy of films?

Yeah apparently though he always had that in mind (from the outset of making Batman Begins). I can't see him making Inception 2 though, for example. But yeah there probably are examples of it. I kinda like the auteur theory myself. Not that popular nowadays though.

Yeah I made my initial comment when I thought Scott was on board to direct. Apparently he's too busy with Alien Covenant.

It kind of ruins half the reason Blade Runner was such a long lived classic. RIP Blade Runner.

They'll play it one of two ways. Either "He's the most advanced model yet and we made them age, because, reasons".

Or they just won't mention it at all. Whilst still pushing the "Is he, isn't he" angle and thinking they're being clever. "We left it up the viewer to decide". And explain. And fill in all the massive plot wholes that will riddle the film.

My faith in modern screen writers for big budget blockbusters is firmly in negative numbers these days. They *do* have a talent, tho. They must be extremely persuasive, or be expert blackmailers, because they can still get work after repeatedly churning out massive turds.

Still, we can never have too many turds. They keep making $$$ so it must be true.

/le sigh

There's two reasons to be sad about all this. Firstly they will give the Alien franchise another beating it really doesn't deserve, further dulling our fond memories of the good installments.

Secondly, why the fudge can't Hollywood make original IP anymore? Did all the people inventing new worlds and new mythos die of some contagious disease? Can we look forward to Terminator 12 and Alien 9 in the next decade? Maybe Harry Potter Begins Begins Begins, Batman Forever 3, Transformers: The Second Coming Part 5.

Eh, I should just stop caring.

From their point of view, why bother trying to come up something a bit more original, when they can just regurgitate the same old stuff over and over and people lap it up. Easy money. Can't really blame Hollywood, they are just selling what the punters are willing to pay for.

Looks garbage. However if Vangelis is doing the music there is still hope...
from that short trailer i already know the plot.... Ford is a special kind of replicant and Gosling is hunting him...tell me im wrong...

Blade Runner the original is a genuine classic that is unlikely to ever be surpassed to be perfectly honest.

Much much more impressed with John Wick 2 trailer

The thing i like about old films is the way they were made, with older equipment and a lot more effort due to crap computers back in the day so they used models instead of cgi etc.

Thats why i like older films. If they want to do sequels to old films i wish they used the same stuff back in them days so it felt like a part of them. But no they look too HD too cgi and just far too clean with no emotion or grit.

Plus the actors are a different generation, back in the 80s we had a lot of good talent and they didnt have to be pretty boys and girls or use sex appeal. Nowadays its all young faces that cant act and are only there cos of their good looks and popularity.

Harrison isnt bad these days its just he is thrust into action roles which he cant do like he used to and doesnt have that zing of being in his prime. He would do a lot better in slow moving films i think instead of action ones at his time in his life. Tbh he didnt do too bad in sw tfa, far better than in the last indy.

If riddly is any good still it might turn out good. Depends on the strength of the script and if they can capture the magic again with the music and cinematography.

Blade runner kinda needs a BR to chase after simulants but i hope they do something cleaver with it and not just hunt down some class 5 or whatever like last time that wants more life. I also dont want to see anything like a uprising with a sim leading a army of sims. I would like to see another love interest, another sim conspiracy event and the makers involved tho.

Isn't everything we've seen of Deckard in that trailer just a dream sequence?

All looks to clean compared to the grimey feel of the original movie.

Is this to be an empathy test?

:)

I hope they dont **** this up.
I am still smarting after the events of phantom menace, crystal skull, prometheus, terminator gynocysts.

Take a fantasic IP and hurt it in ways a person couldn't believe. Scripts on fire off the shoulder of Orion, watching idiots idea bulbs glitter dimly in the darkness by the Tanhauser gate. All these IPs have been lost.... coughs.... like **** in the Ganges.

Time to die.

Ford isnt 40 anymore :p Hes a geriatric He needs to prove his mind is still with us and He needs to grow back that beard he was pushing earlier this year and fight for those mentor / old wise man roles he can still do some action but not him pretending to be 40 anymore. Maybe his mind HAS gone and he thinks its only 1987 or smt.....

Let us ask what he thinks?

does nothing of the sort, they already established/implied there was at least one replicant w/out an expiry date [or at least far longer than normal], who's to say Dekkard wasn't one too? and giving they are at least partly living flesh, why would they not show signs of aging if they live long enough?

Replicants are still biological...who says for sure that they don't age? We know that Rachel has no 4-year lifespan...she has fake memories...that's all we know. If Deckard lived more than 4 years after 2019 then he didn't have a 4-year lifespan either...his obsession with photos points to him also having "fake memories" of a wife, etc. etc. (although the script was such a mess who knows?) so isn't it possible that he could be both a replicant AND old?

What makes you think Rachel doesn't have a 4-year lifespan? The lovey dovey ending of the original may well imply that, but later versions certainly do not.

As much as I'll wait to see what the "sequel" brings - it's not bothering with source material any more.

I'm not sold. The first teaser almost had me, but the "feel" and atmosphere of BR has gone with this trailer.

Completely gone. This trailer looks like the makers don't understand Blade Runner universe and mythos - too bright, too clean, too cgi, too full of B-movie background cast. It's bad enough that shoving old Harrison Ford in our faces wrecks the whole purpose of "Directors Cut" - the question of "is-he-isn't-he" just stopped existing in this Blade Runner timeline and with it the decades long fight for a proper release. But this trailer is 70% daylight. Now that destroys the core of that universe. You may be allowed one, tops two scenes in daylight. Flashback maybe. Now this steaming pile looks like one of those ideas where they would take Alien to a ice glacier desert and make it fight with Predator.
