Bladerunner 2 (Spoilers!)

He's the Exec Producer, I thought? That's a pretty powerful position... plus he's still Ridley Scott and probably carries a lot more clout than a regular EP, same way Sigourney Weaver did with Alien 3 and 4.

Damn :(

I have enough faith in DV not to be swayed though, he's proved himself as an exceptional director and he's someone that excites me when I see his name attached to a film.

I'm sure he'd like to do a good job.... I just worry that Ridley would have had the power/influence to fire DV if he strayed too far from whatever vision Ridley had pulled out of his backside for BR-2049... and am worried that we'll get a repeat of the cringey dialogue in Alien Covenant - "You blow, I'll do the fingering"!!!

Just stumbled across this on facebook.

“The thing is, the movie you’re going to see is the director’s cut. There will be no further … maybe there’ll be a ‘studio version’ [laughs], maybe a producer version, but not a director’s version. That’s my director’s cut. So I don’t think there will be further versions. If there are alternate versions, they’re not from me.”

Also the telegraph has an absolutely glowing article about the positive reviews...

reviews are out

everyone saying its amazing, empire 5 stars etc

I almost cant belive that it is possible to make a sequel that could work
as long as its good in its own right, Its good, it doesnt have to replace the original, I dont think any film could replace it as my favourite, so am not expecting this to

you couldnt get better filmmakers so if they cant do it, no one can

The expectations and the anchor for this must be ENORMOUS and the mere fact that the critics were not disappointed, not satisfied, met expectations but EXCEEDS expectations gives me hope that this really is the real deal.

Exec producer is generally a token position. An exec producer often has little to no actual input, but are given the role out of respect or so they can market the film using a famous director's name.

For instance, Stan Lee is executive producer on all the Marvel MCU movies and TV shows, but all it really means is that Stan Lee gives the production permission to use his name in the credits. He also agrees to do cameo roles in almost all of the films . He also speaks favorably of Marvel productions when interviewed about them.

He is not involved in financing, conceptualizing, writing, pre-production, production, post-production, or approvals etc

Well the reviews are all pointing to this being better than my wildest dreams!

Really stoked for seeing this now :) Great that it's not just another cheap reboot cash in.

Could actually be a credible sequel to my favourite film of all time!

I'm going to make a point of seeing this in IMAX too. One reviewer has said "You must watch this on the Largest screen possible". Can't argue with that methinks. :D

I read that too, which makes me a bit sad I booked in the standard screen. If they had done the Imax in 2D I'd have gone for it, but I really can't be bothered watching it in 3D!

The Atmos sound mix is really good, I've got the 4k UHD Blu-ray
Me too! It looks amazing as they managed to get a 4K transfer from the original film and the HDR is great for a film like this. The sound is brilliant, I concur!
Watched it a few times over the years and this is the first time I think I properly enjoyed it.

That sounds more like a co-producer...

"The role of the Executive Producer is to oversee the work of the producer on behalf of the studio, the financiers or the distributors. They will ensure the film is completed on time, within budget, and to agreed artistic and technical standards"...
^Which is the first point I imagine Ridders is concerned with...

The Producers Guild of America defines an Executive Producer as follows:
  1. "The credit of Executive Producer shall only apply to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the motion picture and who additionally qualifies under one of two categories:
  • Having secured an essential and proportionally significant part (no less than 25%) of the financing for the motion picture; and/or
  • Having made a significant contribution to the development of the literary property, typically including the securement of the underlying rights to the material on which the motion picture is based"
So by that, either Ridley holds the purse strings and has a strong say in how the film turns out and/or controls the rights and thus has a strong say in how the film turns out.....

Just listened to an interview with DV, seems that Riddley and Fancher wrote the screenplay, handed it to DV and said "its all yours do what you like" and did not interfere with the production
DV gets it, he talks extensively about walking the line of the ambigious ending of the original rather than answering questions that dont need to be answered

I've just booked tickets for 1pm on Thursday, my nephew is going with us so hopefully he's watched the Final Cut BD we gave him a few months back when we learned he'd never seen the original.
