Oh my god is that a gun he is holding?

Like someone said....weak argument really.

Since everyone keep talking about the "violence" hiphop promote...erm how about some knowledge it gives?

Below is a lyrics from one of NaS album...this is directed at the kids. This is just an example of the thousands of positive lyrics out there, but i guess all these "blamers of hiphop" wont see it or refuse to see it.

"I Can"

[Kids]
I know I can (I know I can)
Be what I wanna be (be what I wanna be)
If I work hard at it (If I work hard at it)
I'll be where I wanna be (I'll be where I wanna be)

[Nas]
Be, B-Boys and girls, listen up
You can be anything in the world, in God we trust
An architect, doctor, maybe an actress
But nothing comes easy it takes much practice
Like, I met a woman who's becoming a star
She was very beautiful, leaving people in awe
Singing songs, Lina Horn, but the younger version
Hung with the wrong person
Got her strung on that
Heroin, cocaine, sniffin up drugs all in her nose...
Coulda died, so young, now looks ugly and old
No fun cause now when she reaches for hugs people hold they breath
Cause she smells of corrosion and death
Watch the company you keep and the crowd you bring
Cause they came to do drugs and you came to sing
So if you gonna be the best, I'ma tell you how,
Put your hands in the air, and take a vow

[Chorus - 2x (Nas and Kids)]
I know I can (I know I can)
Be what I wanna be (be what I wanna be)
If I work hard at it (If I work hard at it)
I'll be where I wanna be (I'll be where I wanna be)

[Nas]
Be, B-Boys and girls, listen again
This is for grown looking girls who's only ten
The ones who watch videos and do what they see
As cute as can be, up in the club with fake ID
Careful, 'fore you meet a man with HIV
You can host the TV like Oprah Winfrey
Whatever you decide, be careful, some men be
Rapists, so act your age, don't pretend to be
Older than you are, give yourself time to grow
You thinking he can give you wealth, but so
Young boys, you can use a lot of help, you know
You thinkin life's all about smokin weed and ice
You don't wanna be my age and can't read and write
Begging different women for a place to sleep at night
Smart boys turn to men and do whatever they wish
If you believe you can achieve, then say it like this

[Chorus]

[Nas]
Be, be, 'fore we came to this country
We were kings and queens, never porch monkeys
There was empires in Africa called Kush
Timbuktu, where every race came to get books
To learn from black teachers who taught Greeks and Romans
Asian Arabs and gave them gold when
Gold was converted to money it all changed
Money then became empowerment for Europeans
The Persian military invaded
They heard about the gold, the teachings, and everything sacred
Africa was almost robbed naked
Slavery was money, so they began making slave ships
Egypt was the place that Alexander the Great went
He was so shocked at the mountains with black faces
Shot up they nose to impose what basically
Still goes on today, you see?
If the truth is told, the youth can grow
Then learn to survive until they gain control
Nobody says you have to be gangstas, hoes
Read more learn more, change the globe
Ghetto children, do your thing
Hold your head up, little man, you're a king
Young Princess when you get your wedding ring
Your man is saying "She's my queen"

[Chorus]

Delusional imo. :/

In fact 50 has said he firmly believes his life as a drug pusher was arranged by God as part of his "life story".

Bottom line - he sold drugs, he got shot. He got fed up of getting shot, turned to rap, he talked in his raps about his life as a hustler - and as such has made a fortune because people like the drugs hard man talk.

So - he sold drugs, which led to him having rap material, which sold records which has made him rich. And that's actually the way god works apparently. Jonathan Ross asked him - "have you any problems talking about being a hustler" - and 50 says no, "it's gods way".

ElRazur, aren't you going to reply to Merlins post? You asked someone to tell you when 50 cent had ever said the above things, denying that he had and Merlin has generously written a reply.

I am not 50 cents and i cant exactly speak for him, if he speaks about his life/ his past and sell plenty of records then i **guess** he is giving the people what they want.

If you read about 50cents write ups etc, the whole "got shot nine times thing" is supposed to be fiction or faction (a bit of truth and plenty of lies). if what people are saying is true, he got shot with a NINE but along the line it changed to "getting shot NINE times"......Whatever is the truth, he is making good use of it as a good PR tool.

EDIT
I dont believe in God/destiny but if he (fiddy) believes in him, then i think he is not far-streched saying his life is the way god wanted it to be. Ask any religious concious person or any bible bashing yank and they **would** possibly agree with him.

7 pages later and ElRazur is still arguing his little heart out, can't we just make it easier and blame him instead?

;)

Rubbish, it's the perfect argument. Willis is a policeman saving the lives of hundred of people held by terrorists and as a policeman he uses a gun. There is a sense of authority in this picture and a sense of right and wrong. I see no encouragement to carry a gun, more that this man is a hero on the right side of the law and you too could be like him if you joined the police!

The rapper with a gun reeks of criminality and the glorification of violence. End of.

You clearly missed the idea.....

No, I didn't actually.

A picture of a gun is not the issue, it is the message that is being conveyed. You used a picture from a film to imply that there were many occurences of guns in the media and why was the rap image any different.

I gave you a strong reason why I believe the images and the use of guns convey different messages and therefore why I believe the images are fundamentally different leading to a very different effect on impressionable people.

To be honest ElRazur, I think he got the idea ok, It's just imho you used a bit of a bad example. If you swap the Die Hard poster with a scarface/Casino one your point will become a lot clearer

Except he dies at the end of it and the message of that movie is "crime doesn't pay"? Hardly glorifying violence.

It is funny to see people twisting and changing directions when other sources are pointed at but when it ocmes to hiphop, it all different innit?....sigh.

Oh by the way, crime does pay, it dosent just pay that much.. ;)

Well, when it's tenth time lucky I'll concede.

I whole heartedly agree that the scarface image is worse even than the rap one but my point was that the rap image had a very specific message and it is not friendly and it is not well meaning.

My post was in disgust that you could suggest an agressively posed man with a gun down the back of his trousers in a fashion suggesting criminality was just fantasy and your implication that people would know it was not an acceptable attitude was ludicrous.

You pointed at another source that I think doesn't glorify violence, how is that twisting/changing directions as I've just joined the debate?

With that image you posted I see a drug crazed nutter, hardly glorifying gun crime?

From where he (fiddy) comes from, it is ok to carry guns about so no biggie. I think you are shocked (assuming you live in the UK) as it aint the norm here but that aint his fault, it is the fault of whoever passed the "art cover" of the cd at the media censors board (whatever they call them).
