The screaming is only during mating season, isn't it?
If you're thinking only when only happening when they're shagging, then no. If you're thinking as some sort of blood curdling mating call, then maybe. Though mating season seemed to be all year round previously if that is the case.

We used to have a lot of foxes round our way. I don't quite why there were no many but yes, they were screamers especially in the early hours. At the next house, years later, there were some in the woods and they stunk to the high heavens. Especially when my dog rooted them out.
I hope you didn’t let your dog hurt them

I'm sure people would disagree but i'd like to see a Ban on this type of pet keeping.
Agreed. It seems pointless and foxes (all kinds) are a PITA to try to domesticate at the best of times. Last I read was long-term studies show that while you can selectively breed to take the more friendly ones each generation they never really lose the wild instinct. It just creates a ticking time bomb until a semi-domesticated (at best) non-native creature escapes. As just happened.

We made friends with the foxes in our garden during lockdown. Lovely creatures. Fascinating to watch their social interactions and see how they raise cubs. Every now and then you get a really friendly one who will become a quasi-pet (when they grace you with a visit). I've got video of playing catch with one. She would come and hang out with us if we were doing gardening. So inquisitive. Even used to spectate us doing DIY through the windows. Sadly she's not been seen since December. Either she met with disaster or she left to find her own turf to raise cubs (January being the main mating season round here). Her mum and dad seem to own this patch. Mum's on her third year of cubs (that we know of) and still comes daily to say hello and get some nibbles. Can't wait to see this years cubs. They should emerge in the next week or two (for daylight explores of the territory - not sure if they already come out at night. I need a few trail cams).

SFAIK mating is once a year only. The mating calls are quite defined in terms of the male boomy bark call and female rape-like scream. The more general screeching is for social greetings and interactions and that happens all year round, but is not the same sound. We're so used to it now it doesn't really bother us, though occasionally I have to close a window at 3am if they're really larking around right outside the house.
