Blueyonder/Telewest speed upgrades

Well just a few days ago I was told by a Telewest operater that Walsall AND everywhere would be done by end of Feb!
Looking like a load of bull now though!!!

I was told by them I'd have it as soon as they installed it... in september last year.

As someone who has had 10Mb since before Christmas, you will not generally notice a speed difference in normal use. Even if you have a single large webbased download, its rare for a server to be able to saturate your connection. Although I just recently downloaded the full version of americas army, which is close to 1Gb in around 10Min, speed was 1230Kb/s but this is rare. Even more so that I was not using a download manager to get multiple connections.

If u do use newsgroups it may make a big difference, but I couldnt get the decoding software to work.

so what is a download manager?
Would I be able to use say half my bandwidth for downloading and the other half for sufing the net cus at the moment if I have azeurus on it seems to take up loads of bandwidth even though I'm only downloading at less than 100kbs (I'm on 4mb)
Cheers

I've finally been told this evening that BY have the funds to do the upgrade work to my local network which will solve the utilisation problems. They also say that this will happen in the next week. Although the last part sounds a little like BS to me, having the funds and getting the equipement ordered and installed in a week I doubt is possible.

Would any of you count the END of April as the begining of the year?

it's ridiculous ain't it?
Was promised on the phone that i would have the upgrade as soon as it was installed. that was september.

i know its a free upgrade etc, but when i'm told something, i'd quite like it to be true

Also, all these people on 10mbit for months, paying the same?! bah!

Anyone who's paying £25 a month for a 1mb connection while others are paying the same for a 4mb connection and not doing aything about it is crazy. Simply call Telewest and they will lower your montly subscription fee to £17.99 a month and give you a 2mb connection. If you don't complain you are getting ripped off.

I tried this. Unfortunately the guy I was speaking to was a little slow and said "oh, I'm sure that we will be upgrading you soon"......

I would be tempted to call again were it not for the fact that I may be upgraded in the next week.

If I did call them about this and moved to 2Mb would they move me back to the 4Mb automatically or would I have to call them again? Seems a bit of a hassle if I would have to call twice, with it being so close.

If you speak to someone and you are not happy with the outcome then simply put the phone down and speak to someone else. Sometimes you will get people who don't have a clue, then other times you will get to speak to someone who is "on the ball". I got the impression right away form the person i spoke to that she knew exactly what i was talking about when i complained. I could tell she'd had complaints about this before and that Telewest had briefed her on what to do.

Oh and yes, you do have to call Telewest when they finally upgrade your sevice but it's not a big deal. When they do finally upgrade just call them and tell them that you want to go back to your original service. IE, if you complained and they upgraded you from 1 mb to 2 mb, when you get the free upgrade to 10 mb call telewest and they will downgrade you to 4 mb. :)

Yeah my dad bit of complaining as were are paying £35 a month for 4mb, now i think they have changed our prices to £25 for the time being. If you dont ask, your not going to get anything changed

If you downgrade & then want to upgrade again you can do it on the blueyonder selfcare page (http://selfcare.blueyonder.co.uk) instead of calling them btw.

Keep telling dad to downgrade but he says not to bother (accounts in his name but i pay, doh) & just wait, wouldnt mind but i upgraded to 4mb two months ago and its only about 10kbs faster than 2mb! (in yorkshire)

I live in yorkshire, and I upgraded via selfcare, and my performence on the 2meg was horrid, went to 4meg and was getting 500kbps speeds, Ide give BY a ring and see whats up.

End of March for B'ham...as usual Ill believe it when I see it!

Wasn't the upgrade supposed to happen back in November? I think I'll be on the phone to BY tomorrow getting a reduced rate.

My connection sems to finally be at 4mb like it supposed to have been since November, not before time, but tbh I'm still not happy about the way BY have handled any of it. Poor customer relations and service I think. Its a pity as I would have recommended them to anyone before all this.

You guys should all consider yourself lucky...
I am in North Cornwall where we still use 2 baked bean cans and a bit of string. Mind you having first emptied the cans the hot gas speeds are greater than 50Mb a second :p
