Blueyonder/Telewest speed upgrades

Is it only me having problems?

I rang Telewest and they said it was my router causing all the problems.

Uplugged that and its still happening!

Do you have to take out a BT phone line to get any other broadband from other companies?

Phaser, i dont know what Area of wheatley your in, but im on Beckett Road, if you know it, and i dont have any problems here, average download speed from the Blueyonder FTP is around 1378 kb/sec.....check for spyware and adware, and virus's, plus anything else that used the internet running on your computer

oh phaser, your using the old modems, i forgot that, the techy should see it and replace it right away, i know they did that with mine, and mine wasnt as old as yours, so let us know if anything happens before then.

No the 'old' one is the Motorola Surfboard 3100, which has a 10mbit lan port, so will restrict people on 10mbit a little.

Well according to them on the phone they are still using the Webstar modems and it shouldn't be that which is causing the problem.

I can get on the internet it just disconnects every 5-10 mins and I have to restart it.

Will have to see what happens Tuesday I guess. :)

My Internet has been down since Monday evening.
my inet was down for 5days and it turned it was my stupid modem :@
the stupid thing must have gone faulty.it would try to connect forever and the odd time it would connect for 30 seconds then disconnect right away with some error message in the modem log like "recieved async range failed".

guy came out and swapped my SB4100 to a SB5101E and inet was back on instantly :D
could be something similar has happened to your modem even though its not the same as the one i had.
i know the sb4100 was really old but it was working on 10mb since december.

stupid BY customer support has gone down hill in my opinion though.

inet went down on wednesday ,tech was scheduled to come out on friday morning but never showed up ,i phoned up BY and they told me it had been rescheduled for monday morning! WTF! they could have let me know and the guy on the phone said he couldnt understand why it was rescheduled because they usually only ever reschedule if the customer asks.

Hey all,

Im on the BY 512K service im in the midlands and should be getting upgraded to 2MB when they have done that im going to upgrade to 10MB. I have the white Webstar Modem DPX100 i think will this be good enough for 10MB. Although over the past few weeks the modem has been loosing internet connection which is annoying. ?....

Thanks.

the past few weeks and the next couple too are causing problems as they are upgrading the network ready for the speed uplift, hence your internet cutting out, mine has a couple of times over the past couple of weeks.

Engineer just came, said it was because there wasn't enough IP's in the area to go round.

As soon as someone disconnects, then someone else is in there apparantly.

Always get them to swap the modem. I had an engineer come out and claim there was no problem. I got the modem changed and then there really was no longer a problem. Ofcourse this was a long while ago when they werent upgrading at the time.

That sounds like BS to me. Although I have been told the problems I've had have been a result of over-utilisation in the local area. Apparently the UBR you connect into should have a balanced load, but the one I was connected to was 94% utilised, means sfa to me but apparently thats bad. Maybe you are the same?

Sorry for being ignorant but i can't be bothered to read all 50 odd pages of this :p My mate has been abroad and wants to know if these upgrades have been put into action around the Surrey/middlesex area, Hampton to be precise.

If any knows let us know pls :D
