BluRay Already Won The Format War?

Far from it.

Most people don't even have a HD Tv yet. I still think that when both players are readily available for a decent/low price, most people with a 'HD' tv and sky 'HD' will naturally go for a 'HD' DVD player. On here most people know the difference between bluray and HD-DVD but I know quite a lot of people who haven't a clue what bluray is, and I'm talking about young guys into their playstations etc, not exactly oldies.

Funny thing is though, yesterday i was on a competitors web site and done a search for HD-DVD looking to see how much the stand alone players where. And i got 1 HD-DVD player and the rest where HDTV's (No idea why) and quite a few upscaling DVD players.
I think because of the HD-DVD and HD DVD players consumers could easily get confused. I don't think it leads to less, i think it will lead to more. They could end up saying bugger it 'i'll get that BluRay thing that whats in that there playstation thingy'
Thing is with BluRay and HD-DVD neither have started the marketing over here yet. Wait till the PS3 is released over here and i bet Sony will hammer us with PS3 adds and BluRay ad's.

Its worth noting that the 1 dual format player out (the LG), is not certified by *** HD_DVD forum, although it is by the BD forum. I believe one of the additional features that is used by some discs (for downloading extras via the Internet), is not included in this player, hence it does not have official certification.

So as yet, a true dual format player does not exist.

Yeah i also heard they can be in hot water over that.
Something about them showing it off at CES without license etc they could be facing a nasty wee lawsuit

I read his reply to my reply. Why? Kinda confused to what you are getting at.

The guy seems to be sticking with the fact HD is better than Bluray. When it's just not true
Sorry, I was referring to the guy who tested both formats on the same TV using the same inout and leads.

Hope that cleared it up a bit :)

life's brilliant

Bought a ps2 only 2ish years ago and only just started to by DVD's and now its going to end in a couple of years? Brilliant!

Have you seen two of the higher end HD-DVD and Blu-Ray players with the same movies on the same TV?

Trust me, HD-DVD has the edge, Blu-Ray can look quite poor.

On a decent recording they are impossible to tell which format is which - so maybe you just got a good hd-dvd recording compared to an early BR

On a top quality projector compariing the same clips - there is basically no way to tell from the visuals (audio however is less compressed as stated elsewhere on BR)

If you still think you are right its your imagination or phycological

I'll believe the "format war" is over when one party admits the other has won... it's far too easy for Sony to claim BR for the win.
