BMW and M Power Owners

Do you still have your 135i?

No I sold it. Never quite got on with it. It was fast, but that was it. I just never really fell for it. In hindsight I should have kept it as it was a clean, quick car that would have no doubt kept going for a long time. Just at the time I had no love for it!

Still no idea what to do next and keep forgetting about the M2 for some reason.

Went and had a sit in one today (to see if it passes the wife’s bad back test) and all seemed good, might have to sort a test drive soon.

Really like the proportions, still really like the C63 saloon as well and I know it is very much not a big car, but is big-ish to me when the Golf is what I’ve been used to for so long ;)

I find the size of the M2 perfect. Fits nicely in parking spaces, easier to get out of then the TT. Perfect size for blasting down country roads.

Width wise it is only about 18mm or so wider than the mk3 TT. Probably the wheel arches... :p

Took my car in last Monday for a service and they called to ask if I'd like it washed/hoovered, I keep the car in good condition and usually polish/wax it myself but hadn't had a chance for a while and previously they had done a good job, due to the weather I didn't notice much apart from it looked like they had rushed it as it was not very well washed, fast forward to Wednesday when it was in the sun and my friend commented on the paint looking swirly so I went out and had a look, the entire car looks like this.

I contacted them and sent photos at their request, after taking it in this morning and them checking it over they said that they hadn't caused it, but they could get a detailer in to do it for £500+, after disagreeing with them and pointing out it looks like they washed it with a brillo pad I am waiting for them to call me back with some offer of them rectifying the problem.

It looks as though they didn't pressure wash it first and just washed it badly with all the dirt still on it! as there are still areas on the car where it doesn't look like it was washed at all.

Anyone had an issue like this and have it resolved?

Cheers :)

This made me laugh. How did they come to that conclusion? Did they get their expert forensic car washer to have a look at it and state that in his 30 years of professional experience, these aren't the sort of swirl marks that his team leave?I also love how main dealers never miss an opportunity to try and make a profit though, even when someone is complaining.

Realistically, you aren't going to get anywhere because you're not going to be able to prove they did the damage. A rotary polisher and some decent polish would bring this back to being perfect, and chalk it up to experience that you NEVER, repeat, NEVER get the main dealer to clean a car that you care about. I've seen them on two different occasions drop cloths/wash mitts on the floor before picking them up, and carrying on cleaning the car...

Seen exactly that while waiting for my old F10 to be serviced. The guy outside was swapping between a wash mitt and towel, and just chucking whatever he wasn't using on the floor and then using it and dumping the other thing. It made me wince thinking of the damage he was causing

Merc scratched my car when I took it in to them for it's first service. A nice scratch on the rear panel, that when the detailer looked at it, said it looked like they'd try to fix it and really made a mess of the paint work, luckily it came out with a paint correction but still... I tried to argue my case when I noticed it at the time but they said it wasn't them and unfortunately as I had no before picture, I had no chance.

I did say I wasn't accepting their response and if they didn't do anything I'd take it further, after showing them bits of the car that had missed being washed (which may have proven they hadn't pressure washed it first), they said they would discuss it further and contact me. I got a call a little earlier to say the area manager will be in touch within a couple of days to discuss having it rectified - although with none of this in writing I am a bit dubious until I get the call.

Definately will be declining a wash from now on!

A friend of mine had this with his Range Rover, he kicked off big time with the dealer principal and they agreed to have it properly paint corrected.

My coolant expansion tank float broke off today. At 130k miles I’m surprised it lasted as long.

Anyway I had planned to change the coolant anyway as it’s got some pink stuff in it for some reason.

So I’ve ordered a oem expansion tank and plan to tackle it this week.

Am I right in thinking g48 is the one I require for the 335d m57 engine?

That feeling of dread when you expect the dealer to have missed the notes left on the dash, passenger & drivers seats, shifter, wheel, speedo's and windscreen "NOT" to wash.

To roll up and see your car cleaner than when it was left  :p

That said, mine only goes to a dealer for recall or warranty work which *touch wood* is rare.

I went to look at some cars yesterday and remoted to get a 5 saloon rather than touring. Looking at AUC cars around £20k. In terms of extending warranty what prices are normal? There was a car near me up for 18k that had 50+k miles and I ran an extended warranty quote which came out over £900. Is this the going rate or because of the mileage? I wasn’t expecting the warranty to be cheap, but it is more than I paid for a cayman S 3 years ago. Are there mileage points at which the costs jump? Thanks for any help

The 5 Series warranty is expensive - and gets much more expensive at 60k miles. The sub 60k rate is about £1000 for a new comprehensive policy with emergency service. There is a circa 15% discount for renewals.

It's very frustrating given how much cheaper the 3 Series (and, by extension therefore, a 440i Cabriolet or something) is than a 5 Series despite the fact the electrics, engines, gearboxes, etc etc are all the same.

I was pleasantly surprised when I took out the warranty on the F80 M3 today...£793 with £250 excess, no emergency service (but roadside assistance is included as standard).

Thats a very reasonable price. Got my eye on an F80 potentially and that price has really surprised me. Was this annual renewal invite or new policy altogether?

Fox could probably answer better because I don't know what it would come under, but it's an AUC car which when I bought it had ~8 months of original warranty remaining and then topped up by 4 months of AUC. I've taken out the policy after being called by BMW warranty. Not sure if that constitutes a new policy or a renewal.

I opted for the higher excess because the car is still pretty new, properly maintained and has not thrown up any problems so far, so I'm reasonably confident that I won't need to claim, but I want the reassurance of the policy behind me because it has the potential for some very expensive things to go wrong with it!
