BMW and M Power Owners

Well, update was pretty painless, 1 minute all done.

I also got a response from the dealer regarding maps update. That's £95.51 for the 2019 update! Does anyone know whether maps include traffic updates? There's an option in the menu that I selected, but this morning the ETA was what it would be if the roads were clear, so suspect it's not actually picking anything.

Real time traffic is a subscription service

Oh well, then it's pretty pointless to have updated maps, if traffic cannot be displayed. Will pass for now. It would make sense to get free traffic for [X] years once you get the update. But paying £95 is bad enough, nevermind paying a subscription on top.

Edit: Plus "This service is not available for your BMW" according to the bmw connected site. In which case, what does traffic update do when I select it in idrive?

Depending on the your exact media system it is possible to update the maps for free but does some effort to work things out. I’ve updated the maps on my f30 3 times now, update takes a good 45+ minutes so make sure you start it before you go on a long journey. I have heard it said that you can turn off the car and the update should pick up where it left off from but I’ve never taken the chance.

Okay, will have a better look when I get home, but found sellers on eBay offering BMW CIC maps for a lot cheaper (£35). All I need is a 32GB USB apparently.

How old is your car?

So after reluctantly dropping off the mini for my boring dad-mobile and paying £780 for the pleasure my car had a little stutter again on the way home where power was reduced between certain revs (I'm thinking the turbo?!) so will be dropping her in again tomorrow.

It was in for a break fluid change and a Drivetrain fault which flashed up only the once and they related to these 6 error codes for swirl flaps and something else which they needed to take off the inlet manifold to clean or whatever.

Anyway... Don't think it's fixed, perhaps even worse than before.

Not all bad as I hope I get given the mini again haha! :D

Wow, F11 535d ownership is just a barrel of laughs :|

Are these par for the course or have you been particularly unlucky? What's the mileage now?

I'm cursed. Ever since I sold my M5 every car has killed me :(. (oh, except my e34 535 but that became a garage queen in the end)

Edit: most likely it's the fact I drive these worker diesel cars like petrol wring-their-neck type cars... So I guess I made my own bed.

Edit2: sorry mileage is about 130/140 now I think

I'm in love with this Mini. Seriously making me want to buy one
They come supercharged...

Somebody stop me!

Any way if getting that one above 200 without much effort? What's the usual enhancement to a mini?

Do I have rose tinted specs on and it'll just **** me off after a month or two and then worse when it rains?

Planning to go see a 14 plate M235i tomorrow. Not finding much by way of things to look out for online other than a fuel pump recall in the US, which I'm not sure even affects UK cars. Does anyone have any hot tips please?

Got a Z4 35i last week, so researched the same engine. Didn't find much regarding the fuel pumps and wastegate issues that seemed to plague the US, happening anywhere else.

There was a recall issued I think something to do with engine cutting out during driving, but I have only seen one car from the 10s I looked at that had an open recall issued against it. (using the MOT checker tool and clicking check for recalls)

I think this is the story regarding the engine cutting out: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/05/09/bmw-recall-312000-cars-finding-engines-could-cut-driven/

From the story it seems the 2 series is unaffected though. and that it is not engine related.

In all, not much information I'm afraid! If you do find something about the engine, do share so I can keep a close eye to it.

Cheers, that's good to hear really. I did a little more research last night but had to dig around on Reddit and this was the highlight from a BMW tech's advice for a car that's done over 80K miles: https://www.reddit.com/r/BmwTech/comments/bvnjcv/2015_m235i/

It appears they just have good reliability. Now I just have to struggle with whether I like the M235i enough to sell my beloved Z4M.
