BMW and M Power Owners

Got a Z4 35i last week, so researched the same engine. Didn't find much regarding the fuel pumps and wastegate issues that seemed to plague the US, happening anywhere else.

There was a recall issued I think something to do with engine cutting out during driving, but I have only seen one car from the 10s I looked at that had an open recall issued against it. (using the MOT checker tool and clicking check for recalls)

I think this is the story regarding the engine cutting out: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/05/09/bmw-recall-312000-cars-finding-engines-could-cut-driven/

From the story it seems the 2 series is unaffected though. and that it is not engine related.

In all, not much information I'm afraid! If you do find something about the engine, do share so I can keep a close eye to it.

Just FYI the Z4 35i and the M235i have different engines, Z4 is the old N54 and 2 Series has N55.

This is true actually. My mistake. Confused with the M135i, which did have the N54 engine till 2010.

Z4 E89 never had the N55, as far as I know. Not sure what the new Z4 has though.

Not necessarily true, Z4 switched to N55. The 35iS stayed as an N54.
The E89 never had the N55 actually, it's a bit of an odd ball both in engines and naming conventions! Feels like it fell between the cracks of E/F generations.

New G29 Z4 is B58, same as the M140i/240i.

Also finally had use for this weird thing that's been loitering around my cars since my teens haha

Now it was raining when I did it but was no worries and I left the engine running to be on the safe side.

The wire connected to the glass is simply power for the heating element, right? So I'll know its fully functional if it demists (or whatever) in the morning yeh?

Cheers @Jez

Good work, I would guess that the wire must also control the dimming as I think it will be fed from the centre mirror so that they all dim together...

Oooh I assumed it was a reactive chemical but reacting to direct light rather than an electronic impulse from another sensor... interesting.

Mini idea is getting **** on by all my friends too. I am being, and I quote, "gay". These are men in their thirties hahaha!

Edit: I had no idea **** was a swear word! And you guys got no clue what word I'm talking about haha

To be fair, having sat in a couple of minis they are quite nice to be in, and feel like go-karts at times.

I just don't fancy the styling on some of their models, but for the standard mini I think it's pretty good.

On a sidenote, I am after a phone holder for my E89 Z4. Leaning towards a cd slot type one, since:
- I don't wanna use a windscreen one, and
- my current vent type fits the vents, but due to the curvature of the panels my phone doesn't fit the holder

Anyone has any other recommendations?

Saw the M235i. Inspected it. Drove it. Liked it. Bought it. Hopefully go pick it up this weekend.

Then need to prepare the Z4M for sale. For an 11 year old car mine is in great condition, but has the usual chips and scrapes built up over the years. One thing I was planning to do was get the wheels refurbed as the rears are starting to peel and they have some irremovable tar and dings from previous owners. Would people get the alloys done before sale or just knock some money off the asking price?

Saw the second one before. Problem is I have iDrive so don't have the storage lid to open as per their instructions :/
