Yep my personal plate matches my initials :D. Been on a few cars over the years now started with my XFR

Good! :D
Honestly that 53 plate X3M looks a bit **** in black if I’m honest.

The are some great colours for the X3M like the frozen grey or blue that really make it stand out. Seems a waste all in black..

Frozen Grey, not an option on stock cars, stupid costs and a sod to look after. I liked the Phytonic Blue and Donington Grey, but couldn't find either in the spec I wanted (stock MY21 car, with at least the Comfort Pack, heated rears seats, sun protection glass and enhanced bluetooth) and with a dealer willing to do the deal I was after. Fortunately I think it look brilliant in the black and the interior isn't black it's Adelaide Grey.

Looking at the ones for sale at around £14k, WBAC will offer around 12 for them, so not a million miles away. I don't think £14k for a nicely specced, cared for F01 is too bad. The ones closer to £10k are invariably rough. Open to any suggestions if you spot some though.

I've seen this one, nice.

To be honest at this sort of price it's probably worth spending another £3-4k and getting a fresher one from AUC and trying to get a 2 year warranty thrown in.

I do really like the F01, it’s a lovely car, but personally I can’t think that it’s worth laying £14k out on one now, even if we’ll cared for. Only my opinion of course and you clearly value a warranted car more than I do (which is not at all!).

In that same vein I’d not want to spend £3-4K more for an AUC G series car for what amounts to the 2 years of warranty. valuing a warranty on a relatively new car at £2k/year seems way off to me, the car is very unlikely to need any work at all let alone £4K in 2 years....you’d need to be so so unlucky or utterly trash the car daily for a 7-series warranty to ever pay off. (This is why @Fox won’t buy one even if they are rather nice, the value attached to warranties on them doesn’t add up).

This is BMW we're talking about. When the HUD went on my 6 series it was a £5k part.

Warranty claim prices always seem to be huge guess it's all part of their smoke and mirror economy. A headlight on mine was £1873 without any modules or bulbs, for what was basically a load of moulded plastic. My warranty paid up and it still didn't fix the issue :p I now have a slightly shinier offside light :p

I’ve ran BMWs for years, i have one right now. A BMW HUD at £5000 is smoke and mirrors as per willgills post :p
@Fox also illustrates why the 7 is incredibly “bad value” if you run it like that.

Not at all. That was a parts invoice from BMW.

£5k for a HUD seems crazy and doesn't make much sense. My experience of BMW warranty claims and similar on newer cars is that the prices have seemed relatively fair. Obviously they aren't cheap but aside from the base labour rate being silly, it hasn't been too bad.

To be honest I think cars are largely down to luck as with many things, if you have a looked after one most things should work fine for a long time, providing the car doesn't have any well known major weak points. I think the warranty is a good idea but only if it's a good deal. BMW value an annual F01 warranty at around £2800 a year which is insanity.

I am now thinking about the G Series 7's, similar to the one Fox mentioned. I'm not planning to do anything until February so will keep an eye out.

Really nice cars and I think the right decision if you are looking at more like £20k. I guess be slightly careful with a G-series car out of warranty as they are still fairly new though. An Fxx I wouldn’t blink twice at due to their age and parts availability, but a G in theory could present problems. I have not looked at these enough to really comment on how the parts look on these yet....do a little research into anything common on them, and then the parts availability and pricing, if there is much out there yet :)

Do BMW actually check over a car before you put a warranty on it, I'm not sure they did with me (although I went from approved used auc warranty straight to the extended one with no gap so maybe that's the difference).

Never ever checked any of my previous cars and one didn't even have a full BMWSH, and I made multiple claims on all of the cars, many of which claims were well into four figures

It hardly a mid 70's Lamborghini is it? You must have the lowest risk threshold ever. It's got the same engine as your car, the same gearbox (both of which are very reliable units) and is 4 years old on 93k miles, which means it has spent it's entire life at 70mph on a motorway.

The suspension on these is robust and even though it has trick air suspension, it isn't likely to have been stressed. Even then, it's hardly something to be terrified of. Apart from that, I can't think of anything else on it I would get too stressed about.

I am just not at all interested in owning a car where I need to think about what to do with it when it breaks down.

Currently, I phone BMW ES who come and rescue it and supply me with a nice new hire car.

That's more like it, tempting :p

Ever happened on an F10?
