BMW and M Power Owners

Wow, that puts it into perspective. You got the Comfort Plus, Tech Plus, Visibility and sunroof too?

yes, although the packs were slightly different for 2020 model year I have all the options in the current packs.

What interior do you have?

I actually have the individual aluminium fabric trim which for some reason is a £500 option! It’s not worth it.

The leather is the standard vernasca with grey stitching. It’s my only regret that it doesn’t have the merino leather but it’s a minor consideration.

The M sport seats were not available in 2020 model year either otherwise I’m sure whoever built this car would’ve included them.

Thanks for confirming. I'm still very tempted by it, but it's such a rubbish time to buy a car.

Used cars are overpriced, and even if you order a new car you may not get all of the things you optioned.

Do 3 Series Tourings typically hold their value better than their saloon cousins? The very few M340i Touring models that are available on the AUC site seem really expensive, but they are still a bit cheaper than ordering a new one, eg. this one is £2800 cheaper than ordering the same spec new with an 11% discount from coast2coast.

I called about that Touring, and because it's the dealer principal's car it won't be available until about 01 October because they're waiting for their new one to arrive. Combined with the fact that they won't budge on the price has put me off a bit for now.

It's a gamble, but I'm hoping that 6 cylinder petrol engines become more desirable the closer to 2030 we get to help with the depreciation.

Is that not because it’s due a facelift like right now, and it gets pretty poor reviews with regards to the ride comfort?
Not sure, seen a few deals with high finance and dealer contributions. I'm just demonstrating that there isn't a huge gap between a fully loaded M340i and an 'M' car, regardless of how it reviews. I appreciate one is a small SUV and the other a touring but someone looking for a practical car of sorts may look at both. The X3 M40 might even have similar discounts in terms of percentages.

You're not wrong. I looked at both the M340i Touring and X3 M40i at about this time last year and could definitely see the pros and cons of each. Ultimately I ruled out the X3 because the interior was older than the G21, and I do prefer estates overall. I have no idea if they have updated the interior in the facelifted X3 because I haven't looked yet.

I was about to say they won't have as they rarely do at a facelift but it turns out they have. The same basic interior structure is there but they've replaced quite a few bits to make it feel much more like the G20 inside - the gearshift area with idrive controller, the front central vents and the climate control etc are all G20 style now, whereas before they were quite G30.

You're demonstrating nothing of the sort - an X3M Competition starts at £82k whereas the M340i touring is almost £33k less. The X3M will have slightly more standard equipment, but the difference is still massive and 17% off £82k+ isn't going to close that gap when M340i discounts are around 11% anyway.

I had a look after I posted and noticed the same thing. As long as the iDrive is now running the latest version, it should be just as good as a G2x overall.

The prices for the X3 LCI after discount are a little higher on coast2coast than the Touring because we all know you pay a premium for an SUV. Unfortunately that means it’s even further away from the £50k max that I wanted to spend.

Spec an M340i estate up and it’ll be well north of £60k.

Any M is a totally different beast to an M340 anyway. Servicing and consumables are considerably more expensive surely?
An X3 M40i would be a much better comparison.

It’s a bit like saying you can get 20% off an M760Li....

That's a £30k discount!! Yes, but when it's still £120k it's not that impressive really
