BMW and M Power Owners

I've test driven a 440i and was surprised that it didn't feel as quick as an M135i, I'm about to go and test a M140i now, which should be interesting. I'm just concerned about how lairy these are. I don't want something that slides around everywhere as soon as it rains a bit

It’ll only do that if you switch off the traction control etc

I certainly won't be doing that!

I just read lots and watched lots of videos about the m140i and loads of them talk about the car being very twitchy and easily unsettled when you don't expect it

I guess it's possible people are driving like idiots as these do seem to attract a bit of a chavvy crowd

Good tyres + sensible driving and you’ll be fine

Joe Achilles did a video in an M135i (the F20) where he would floor it coming out of a roundabout to show the car doesn’t immediately slide out like many think

Most of it is a case of people thinking they’re better than they are at driving :P

Yes, M Performance Parts section at your nearest dealer will stick the tat on for your new M2.

What the hell is that monstrosity, new Subaru?

What year and model? I'd agree with Dis86 that something looks wrong given your configuration doesn't match the label applied to the car.

It’s a 2018 G11 730d M Sport with the optional 20” wheels. Factory fitted, so it’s all fine and correct on that front.

2.2 & 2.2 makes sense to me, looking at the label…?

Can’t say I experienced that in my two years of having an M140i. Drive according to the conditions and you’ll be absolutely fine. Ie, don’t floor it with cold tyres when it’s wet.

I just got back from the test drive, it was brilliant. It actually started raining just as I went out too so was quite a good test. It's rapid! Obviously did have a bit of slip when I put my foot down hard but nothing crazy, and when driving normally it felt very planted and comfortable too.

I actually test drove an Audi S3 saloon too and the m140 is miles better in pretty much every way. Build quality, engine, comfort, driving position you name it. Only better thing in the S3 was the fully digital drivers display

Weird! Can't say I've ever seen a BMW tyre label where the combinations aren't combined on the same section...

I'd agree with your previous idea about being 2.2 all round.

They are great cars, I miss mine some times. You can get 40+ mpg out of them which is great.

Comfortable..? the ride quality is shocking.

The engine is the stand out component and the reason I got one, everything else about the car is quite average in my opinion. Top tip if you do get one, don’t go off-roading as you’ll get stuck on the first bit of damp grass!

Comfortable compared to the S3 and the M135i I'm currently driving :p

Went to a 50 year M celebration at my local dealer, free drinks and pizza!

Loads of test drive going on with people revving engines on new M3's, M5's etc and to me they sound like hair dryers due to the PPF, so my inner chav joined in.

Nearly every on there came over to film etc much to my amusement and my mrs's embarrassment.

Lots of nice cars there though, including an M2 CS and F82 GTS. Terrible point and click pics.

I was there last month. My mate had his 220i in for service. Seemed to me like they weren't expecting him.
He asked for the courtesy car to be a 118i as he was thinking of buying one. The mini cooper S was nice. but they deffo lost a potentialo sale there.

Got a nice coffee whilst we waited though :)

I found the courtesy car service at Audi much better than BMW - they were always happy to give cars and, in my experience, often gave you a better/newer version of what you had from their demos/used car pool to encourage you to maybe upgrade.

BMW I find don't overly want to give cars and when they do, it's often an entry spec Mini or 1 Series because it's the cheapest option. My car went in this morning for a "while you wait" appointment but the service advisor who booked it in never mentioned they were doing an EGR Cooler re-call so will take all day with that and the service. They've ended up getting me a taxi home and will arrange a taxi to pick me up later as they had no courtesy cars left and didn't want to offer a used car or demonstrator even though there was a load sat there by the entrance to take out!
