99.99999% of "warped discs" on performance cars are due to pad deposits. It is almost impossible to warp a disc on the road unless you're trying to or have a sticking calliper and just ignore it.

I saw a documentary years ago (similar in style to "how stuff is made") where they filmed inside the Brembo (iirc) test cells where they had the discs so hot they were close to molten and they didn't warp them, but a couple of super high temperature stops followed by the pad contacting the disc for a little bit too long left enough pad material behind to cause a vibration.

have they made you an offer then, for compensation, or you are waiting to see if they turn up another car for a comparative drive - pictures do look nice though, plus the grey.

e: vaguely related they removed adaptive from edrive 40 in july last year due to 'shortages' (of maybe related electronic modules), so, maybe they could have given you a heads up earlier.

@jpaul - I find it very disappointing that no one made me aware of the change and that it was left to me to spot it.
I will update when the matter has been resolved as I can't say to much right now.

Exactly this.

Love it when people say "warped". Did you do 50 laps of Laguna Seca then drive through a cool quenching puddle? :D

Possibly a daft question but...........On my M340i Touring, there doesn't seem to be a way to switch the A/C on and off by simply pressing a button. You can either say 'Hey BMW, turn off air con' or hit the A/C Menu button and do it through the touch screen with a couple of more finger presses. But it would be handy if there was just a button you could press to switch on and off. I assume there isn't?

A few threads on Bimmerpost suggest pressing and holding the 'down' button for the temp control on the drivers side for three seconds and it then switches off A/C. But this doesn't seem to work for me.

So is it the nice BMW lady I need to ask to switch it off or go through a few key presses in iDrive to do it? Is it possible to bind it to an iDrive smart shortcut function key?

You could probably bind a button to it but...why would you want to turn it off? It's best to leave it running all year round.

Is it not better to turn it off if you don't need it on, save the compressor working away all the time? I'm genuinely not sure, hence the question!!!

Nope, leave it on. If anything, turning it off creates more problems as the seals dry up or something and you'll need to get it refilled. A/C is not just for cooling, so keep it on all year round, set to desired temperature/auto and forget about it.

I'd have expected most modern AC systems will be turning themselves on and off as required, they won't have the compressor constantly engaged surely?

Cheers, I'll leave it on then!!!

Hoping that the EVO 2023-1 map update improves the ability of the satnav to be able to figure out if I'm actually on a road (see screenshot) and to be able to properly calculate city routes. I've wasted a heap of time trying to following the satnav through London and Bristol.
e.g. "turn right" - no that's a dead end.
"turn left" - no that's buses only.

Frankly the satnav on my 2018 530d has been something of a cluster f disappointment.

Haven't ever bothered trying to use the satnav on my car.

Same, I use Google Maps and never have an issue.
Im sure I wouldn't have an issue if I used google maps either but I don't have android auto or carplay. i could possibly get carplay added but I don't have an iphone. I doubt potentially get a 3rd party android auto unit fitted but I'd be a) slightly concerned about how this would impact on warranty and also I'd loose the nav integration with the dashboard which (when its sending me in the right direction) is superb.

I barely used the in built nav in my M140i (which I added CarPlay to myself) and I don't use it in my M3. I think it's really quite poor compared to Google or Apple Maps (and Waze, but I don't use that due to the ads). I pay for the map updates in case I'm somewhere without data.

I know some on here use the BMW nav and swear by it but my experience has been quite poor.

I've found the inbuilt nav pretty good never had any issues with it however the latest iDrive has really upped the functionality with Android Auto/Car Play, you can get Google maps on the cluster and the arrow directions on the HUD makes the inbuilt nav obsolete.

The only time I've had any issues is with very new roads, but I suspect the last Nav update my car had was around 2020 when it was last serviced at a main dealer. I've considered buying the update on black Friday but then I've had very few issues so keep putting it off.

Yep - newer cars have variable displacement air con pumps which gets rid of the need for a clutch and hence they're always spinning. They just vary their output depending on the need to cool the cabin down or not.
