BMW and M Power Owners

I went for an N55 M2 over the competition. Generally more reliable, interior in the LCI is identical minus the seats.
I was/am intending on upgrading suspension anyway, plus no need for a change to the stock exhaust on this as it sounds great unlike the comp...also saved a few grand on the purchase price

Yeah
A lot sing praises for the Mperf coilover upgrade which are supposedly KW V3 rebadged I’m led to believe not something I’ll do just adding a couple of little tweaks but otherwise keeping it largely stock.

Going to get the steering wheel retrimmed in suede and see if they can make it a touch thinner if possible and it’s already got the Mperformance carbon gear knob and suede bits on handbrake a gear lever.

I’d not mind trying to improve sound quality and volume also it’s not got HK but noticed the head unit is HK when I was fitting wifi antenna.

I think the HK amp and speakers are the change only for the HK audio. Don't do it though, either stick with stock or get a 3rd party upgrade eg bavsound as the HK amps **** themselves regularly with water ingress

I'm probably looking at the Litchfield bilstein setup, they are the only company lowering spring rates rather than increasing such as the stock bilstein b16, kW v3, m performance etc

I’d not say it’s unreliable but it has minor issues if you don’t tune it and drive it hard it will be fine but the issues on the engine are well reported on but as all things it’s rare. As the M2 is a fun car and the Mrs uses it a lot the N55 was the better choice for us and I prefer the sound and as I was not too fussed about having fastest available as for speed thrills I’ve got the McLaren the older M2 made more sense for us but it’s got plenty of go.

That’s interesting and makes a lot of sense. The opposite advice I got when I was thinking about an M4, where people were saying definitely get the Comp pack one. It appears to be a completely different set of changes though from M4/Comp to M2/Comp. Good to know.

M2 OG to M2 Comp is a drastic change, different engine, different damper/spring rates I think and major interior revamp.

Drive both and just buy what you prefer. :)

M3/4 Comp has much revised engine map and suspension. The changes make it much less spiky and less likely to put you in a ditch. That’s why the consensus is generally to get the Comp.

Hi there

So done a couple of drives now since the GTS software flash:

Steering - Immediately noticeable, comfort is now a touch heavier than before but I never drive in comfort, sport and sport+ seems the same, I always drive in Sport+ and the steering is just on another level of better, it is not as heavy and is a little hard to explain but the steering now has a far more natural hydraulic type feel to it, in short the improvement to the steering is night and day, it is a natural feeling, as such you stop thinking about the steering and just enjoy it, I'd say there is also maybe a touch more feel, but the weighting is now perfectly judged. Mrs drove it in sport, which is her preferred mode and she also said the steering feels much better, so a big thumbs up from her.
MDM / DIFF - I am going to talk about these together now as I felt before MDM was really kicking in too soon, to the point it was not really letting the differential work, whereas now MDM and Differential seem to be working together more, it is far less intrusive and you can feel the differential really working especially in a minor power oversteer situation where the MDM is allowing the slip angle and letting the differential do what diff's do. As such less intrusive and the differential seems better at putting power down.

All in all the GTS software has transformed my manual M2 OG, so if you have a DCT car it will be an even bigger upgrade!

For £120 from ZED Coding, absolute bargain and it took him around 90 minutes from remote login to flash the GTS software and the IDrive to V6 with Apple full screen CarPlay, total cost for all work including cable an antenna was £250. :)

Avoid BMW.
They will remove all that in a heartbeat then say "sorry guvnor"

Certainly won't be taking car to BMW for anything, specialist only.

Have to further echo just how good this GTS software is, when MDM does decide to actually help you out it is now doing so in a far more natural way where its only helping a little and not just killing all the fun, now seems to be working far more akin to what you'd find in a GT Porsche, really over the moon the M2 the gripes I had with the car the GTS software has really eliminated to the point my only dislike now and its a minor dislike is just the shifting action. I see a lot of people rave about the CAE Ultra shifter, has anyone here got one, any feedback?

I have one in my Impreza. I like it but you do lose feel - personally, if it was more track focused, I'd maybe go back to OE. On the Impreza, I don't quite trust I'll get 6th and not 3rd.

More than once, I've considered selling my Evo for an M2. A group of us went to the Ring in July and the M2 comp we had was great (when it was dry). I was surprised how flattering it was and easy to feel the back pulling itself in where it probably should have turned round on us. Following a downpour we had over 1000hp between us M2 and Evo and we got nailed by a Qashqai :D

I had automatically assumed the comp was the one to get but it's interesting to hear opinions on the OG. I'd prefer manual too.

Just had the M3 serviced, and DCT oil changed and a clean MOT pass. With the same screen they picked up for an advisory last year for the tiniest of chips in the drivers view.

Tyres next I think, they are all ~4mm and I'm looking at CS7's. I do love the feel of the PSS but the tyre tech is ~12 years old now and they are IMO atrocious in the wet and/or cold.

I'd say the Comp is a more composed car, you'll cover ground quicker, the M2 OG is a tad rawer and firmer, so the Comp driver will generally have the edge, you simply have to drive both as they are quite different.

I recently paid £600 for that on my F10 530

Taking my 330ci for some work next week (proper money pit lol), i recently replaced discs and pads all around along with rear hand brake shoes, whilst doing that I noticed the rear drivers spring had snapped so went onto replacing both of those whilst doing those I noticed the drivers side anti roll drop link had snapped, bought two drop links and two bushes to then think i really need a lift for this so have now booked it in for that and a gearbox service as there is no record of it being done and its coming upto 20 years old next march, its still only got 87k on it and I actually still get enjoyment out of driving it. Whilst booking it in for the mentioned work the guy noticed two of the tyres were cracked on the edges, they were michelin pilot sport 4's i think but when i looked at the cost for replacement it was coming in at around £700 ish if not a bit more, ended up with Goodyear Eagle Asymetric 4's for £400 from costco which I thought was a decent deal, the old drivers rear was unmarked so thought i'd keep it as a spare only then did the fitter point out that was a run flat tyre and the other 3 were not, no wonder it felt a little odd at the rear at times and probably the cause of the drivers spring and drop link snapping, in the year and half of having it i've only done about 1200 miles or so :)
