BMW and M Power Owners

check it out at bmw warranty website, i was looking at 7 series recently then noticed the £1800 a year warranty price (with £100 excess and no breakdown), i'd take a wild stab and say the 6 wont be much different?

Looks to be around £1300 if mileage is under 100,000. I guess it boils down to how reliable they are, I'd imagine a gearbox or ecu failure would make it worth while. Having said that, I'll probable keep the car for at least 3 years so is it likely to cost much more than £4k in non-routine maintenance? Who knows. It also depends how decent the actual warranty is, I'll look at that now.

It appears that the facelift models have the N53 engine which is less reliable than the N52. Obviously the pre-facelift is cheaper to purchase as well so I will try to sit in them both, from photographs the facelift interior, unsurprisingly, looks a bit nicer.

Further on my Parrot CK3000 issue. It would appear the Parrot controller becomes unresponsive and flashes both red and green LEDs repeatedly. It's not just the steering wheel controls (siri & redial) that stop working. If I get an incoming call, the Parrot kit rings and I can answer with the steering wheel. If I dial out by using the mobile, the call routes through the parrot and then the steering controls (and parrot controls) kick in.

I've noticed there's a firmware update available so will try that but interested to hear from anyone with the ck3000 and an iphone.

A mates got the later Eonon 5150 (had the CANBUS V2 thing to stop it forgetting where it was when turning the car off). It's a good bit of kit, the screen isn't great but is useable, it has a glossy coating so is a nightmare for glare, and the UI whilst useable, isn't the easiest to operate while on the move.

The Dynavin N6 looks the better unit but I'd guess the price is considerably higher. There's also a good chance you'll get stung for import fees (as my mate did) when they arrive in the UK.

There are pictures of that HU replacing the original console controls in an E46. If you do that, how are you supposed to control the A/C?

You move the AC control panel to the panel below, replacing the cubby hole.

Ahh okay, I didn't realise you could do that. And in the pictures the A/C controls have just disappeared. :p

Not sure if I could live without a cubby hole for... Cubby hole things

Still have one down at the handbrake, down beside the steering wheel, inside the arm rest etc

True but I like a good console cubby hole for my keys and wallet, but then I also like double DIN stereo's with nav and such... The Polo is full of cubby holes, I imagine they are where the features should be, if it had any. :p

Ahh well, the E46 is next on my list for test driving anyway. :D

There is a 318CI at the garage down the road which I might take for a spin, but I would prefer to test a 6 pot. Meaning it would be the second BMW I've test driven...

The first being a 118D M-Sport, which I found to be nice to drive, cabin was a nice place to be, ride was firm, it handled like it was on rails, surprisingly smooth for a diesel, but disappointingly uncomfortable. And rather ugly. I eliminated it because of the need for RF tyres (which people say is the main culprit for the bumpy ride) and the lack of space for a spare wheel.

Those pictures are photoshops, the CC is still where it was, they just dropped the new HU layer on top :p

If you get any BMW, make sure it has 6 cylinders.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to, due to insurance. Will have to wait and see when I'm actually ready to purchase. It looks at the moment as if the insurance on something like an E90 320i may be do-able when I come to upgrade my car, but an E46 325i will likely cost too much to insure, unless I wait even longer. BMW 4-pot engines seem pretty smooth anyhow.

I can insure quicker cars, some with V6's etc, from other manufacturers, for considerably less. It is a little annoying as a BMW is what my heart has been set on for a long time. Damn risk factors etc. At one point my quotes for an R8 (just curiosity of course) were lower than for an E46 330i. :(

I've got one that looks the same that came with the car. I guess there is a lot of cheap knock offs around.

The N6 is triple the price of the Eonon. Not sure if it's worth that.

What i meant was, what is the difference between that unit @ £200 delivered, and the much more expensive group buy ones? They look the same?

Wait longer then, the 4 pot ones are pants.
