BMW and M Power Owners

Patience chaps! Collecting it Wednesday at the earliest so I'll post my pics then :)

The convertible M3 sounds absolutely amazing from the cabin, such a mechanical sound when you're pushing on.

I enjoyed that little read J1nxy, however can you guys explain the difference between the engines in:

640D
335D

Both 3.0 Twin Blow Diesels, why isnt it call a 635D?

They both have different power outputs but I agree it is a bit silly.

The same is true of the petrol one as well, the 640i has the same engine as a 335i or a 535i but with 14bhp more and a different badge..

Cheers Fox - Any idea what they have changed or just software?
They have dropped CR to 16.5 in the 40D from 17 in the 35D and far less CO2!

Why do BMW still use joysticks?

The interior of a BMW cabin usually looks great - and then you get to that silly joystick which lets it down.

The automatic transmission is no longer mechanically controlled is it (i.e. there isn't a physical lever to take it from park to drive)? So you could have a small electric wheel or something.

I prefer the auto stick. You also change up or down with the stick, another nice option (I like it, not everyone does). I much prefer it to the wheel that Jags come with now.

I like the joystick. its smaller and less clunky than a mechanical shifter, it's nice to use and it makes it easy to quickly knock it into Sport or whatever. Moving the stick around is no more time consuming, if not less so, than pressing buttons.

Pics and details definitely needed!!

Pics as mentioned to come but details:
- Nov 2005 reg with 64K miles, new Inspection 2 done at M3/CSL specialist (them)
- Carbon Black with hard top included
- Red Nappa leather
- Manual gearbox
- New Pilot Supersport tyres on rear, new PS2s on front
- New set of fully refurbed alloys with option to cheaply upgrade to genuine CSL wheels when I'm ready for a change of wheel.
- Free car control tuition at his drift day events (he's a race/drift driver)
- Free ride in a CSL which I'll explain in dedicated thread in time :p

I've got plenty of bits to get ordering today so hopefully most arrive by Wednesday. Busy day ahead...

It's been a long time coming, all the years of abuse about lacking cylinders, being a "4 banger" and suchlike, I make the cylinder jokes now ;)

I personally think the 535d touring makes for the best overall compromise over the UK range, only because we don't get the M550d touring xdrive here.

+1 but the 535 Touring commands huge premium... I cannot find a decent AUC example for less than £30k. I think it will be a 530d Touring for me.... I already have the F11 520d Touring and that is a superb car. I may also consider the 525d depending on what deal I can get.

It's the 530d Touring I have (F11 LCI M-Sport) and I love it. I previously had a e91 335d touring (again, LCI and M-Sport) and the engine was fantastic. REALLY fantastic. I did consider going for the 535d Touring, but I just couldn't justify it. I really don't need the power, and being that the F series cars cannot currently be remapped, I felt I couldn't have a 535d without a map on it (the e91 was mildly mapped to circa 340 BHP). And I felt the extra few mpg's were important enough for me at this stage to be more than happy with the 30d.

However, I still feel the 535d Touring represents the perfect all-round family car. I certainly looked at the competition, the A6, E-Class, XF etc... and the 5 series stood head and shoulders above the rest, in my opinion. Sure, every other model had their advantages, but as an overall package, the 5 beat them all. And the 35d engine is the perfect compromise between performance and economy.

Great to hear that you have a 530d Touring  There are numerous AUC examples of F11 530d, Auto, M Sport between £23-30k. Do you have the Extended warranty or on the the AUC one year?
I quite like this car in white, I have seen a few 520D F11's and they look great! Do you guys think white is a no-no on residuals?

I bought mine new, so still has just under 2 years of the manufacturers 3 year warranty. If I still have it when it turns 3, I will be extending the warranty for sure though.

Not a fan of white personally. I went with Sophisto Grey...

Would you not rather have buttons and then that entire space free for a cubby or something?

S-class are the same, they leave that space free instead of putting an ugly stick there.

Nice car xs2man - lovely. I bet that stung a bit paying brand new!!! I've had Sophisto Grey before on a F10 I had. I found it hard to keep clean. Glacier Silver, White, or possibly Xirrilic Blue for me, in that order.
