I run comp/£100 excess as Fox suggests, it unfortunately didn't help too much with my latest problem (water in battery compartment due to rear air vent -a 2011 recall & rear boot seal failure) but BMW paid out £300 of the £500 cost so eh, could be worst. The rear boot seal is a 2 metre piece of rubber costing near £200 retail. I appreciate the rarity of the part but... damn.

Is that to say the warranty is a lot more expensive on the 135? Any idea of what others have paid?

Regarding the boot seal issue, you may find this thread useful/interesting: http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=77478

Turbo edit: Just renewed on a 35i for £392 / £100 excess / comp, aww yeah.
Likewise for the Z4 35i and 35is.
Strange thing about that thread is the guy who had BMW tell him "to do one" said his car is over 5 years old, the post was back in 2012, and the E89 with the hard top convertible didn't come out until 2009.
So I don't think he is talking about the same car?
