BMW and M Power Owners

I think you'll struggle to find someone who knows the BMW market more so than Fox on here.

I think he missed my point anyway - I don't dispute the value of the car, the market does value a very low mileage 2005 330d M Sport at pretty much what he paid. He wasn't ripped off, he didn't pay over the odds for a car fitting that specific description. My point was more that because a low mileage 2005 330d costs that much, it's not in my view the best use of that budget. I respect his request that we don't go on about it, but felt it was important to clarify that point before people think he got ripped off or something, which he didn't.

You haven't had it a full month, give it time for any issues to show their face I say :p

My car is 10 years old and within the first 4 months had to replace 2x DSC pressure sensors at £90 each. It's an old car, stuff will fail regardless of FSH and a binder full of receipts :p

Out of interest how much have you spent on it since you got the keys?

I know this question wasn't directed at me, but I've spent a lot of money on my E46 M3 (~£1000) and not done more than a few hundred miles in it, however I did plan for this and I did get it below "market" value (based on my constant trawling of the classifieds :)) knowing that it needed work done. These cars need a lot of maintenance as they get older.

He's right. "Pulls like a train" is a fairly nonsensical appraisal of a car's performance, just like the phrase "sleep like a baby" shouldn't really correlate to a good night's sleep.
When I bought my S3 [in Germany] I said, "It pulls like a train" in German and the man was very confused.

Turns out there was a minor problem with a turbo valve and it wasn't even producing 200bhp. Embarrassing :o

My car is 13 years old. I have replaced only tyres and wiper blades. My dsc sensor did fail then started to work. That was when the snow was about.

I will replace the brake pads next and drop links. Other then that it's going fine.

I spent near a grand over a period of about 9 months on what was a pretty sound base when I had the e46.

Different people expect cars to be of a different standard or can live with more/less little niggles

Personally, I'll want to fix little niggles. As pointed out and correctly so, I've only owned the car a week. So who knows, I could be knee deep in bills in 9 months! Time will tell.

I'm just thankful there are no obvious up front issues and too right for the money I paid! I'll be booking a body specialist next month to remove all minor imperfections next month. Very much looking forward to that.

Personally, I think you're view is warped on current 2nd hand car nature. You're right about the approach knowing there will be expenses. But your assumptions and judgments upon those asking/posting is what your pitfall is chap.

Like you claiming it's nuts I spend £10k on a 10 year old beemer. Not really, if you actually know the market and particularly BMW's of the age and spec then you'd see it's far from insane. You need to open up to what's out there.

I'm a little defensive yes, as I don't like someone judging my choice based upon their personal preference to the point it's 'wrong' or 'insane'.

I don't disregard your input, I just take everything you say with a large spoon of salt as honestly, you're a bit of an arse. A knowledgeable one for the most part, but mostly just an arse.

I'll say no more on the matter as honestly, I don't have time for it. Far more important things to do.

:D

Dunno. babies can sleep through a lot, which is why it's used. It's not that they get a full nights sleep, but they can easily sleep through getting shifted around the house, or the wifes drunken shouting etc...

Noticed a crapload of scuffs on mine today. Not happy! Looks like someone with zippered pockets or a handbag has walked really closely along the side of it.

Do you drive past bushes and brush them? Can often cause what you're describing. From my previous experience anyway.

Question chaps,

The navigation DVD for the CCC system. If I unlock the car and sit in without putting the key in the ignition (electronic key, with push to start button). The DVD is constantly spinning up. Is this normal? I'm assuming it starts loading data up the moment I unlock the car to help speed the system up.

If not, my only other assumption is that it's constantly reading/spinning the disk which surely would kill the battery? I've removed the DVD for now.

Thanks

Friend of mine has a late e38 740iL he noticed the same with his when he got it, I recall him asking if mine did the same (which it didn't due to not having nav fitted) but he's yet to have any battery issues with it 3 years on.

I'd have thought eventually it would stop of its own accord, we didn't bother sitting by the car for hours to see if it did mind you.

Later cars are most likely different in their operation of course.

On the E46, the systems turn on when you unlock the car, and then takes 5-6 minutes once you lock it to turn everything off :)

I am not 100% certain but I think this is normal, when you unlock the car the systems "wake" and that's why the navi disc will start spinning, when you lock the car again the disc may continue to spin for a few minutes until the car enters sleep mode.

My Merc did the same thing with spinning the disc up if I remember correctly.

Just booked it in for a regas and antibacterial injection. Aircon works but it's a bit... Stinky when you turn it off/on.

£55 at ATS if anyone is interested.

IME all AC systems are whiffy if you turn it on and off. Leave it on or off all the time and you won't get odour problems.

Absolutely this - it is a climate control system, leave the AC firmly on and it'll ensure you get conditioned, moisture free air all year round at the right temperature. Never turn it off :)
