Michelin Pilot Sport 3

These aren't the tyres you want.

Vreds are excellent with excellent tread wear, as are the F1 AS2. Personally I'd go F1 AS2. The Vreds have a larger rim protector lip, but the AS2 have sharper steering feel.

Why not?

I run the PS3's on my Noble and on the rear of my e46 and can't fault them at all :) Admittedly I wanted the cups for the Noble but made do with what was in stock but they've been surprisingly good :)

The PS3 isn't as good a tyre as the PS2 (it's not the upgrade to the PS2, the PSS is the upgrade to it!).

What tyres do people recommend for e46 in staggered set up. 225 40 18 and 255 35 18

Have that exact set up on my 330Ci and have ran Dunlops for almost two years, until last week when I got Conti SC5's, which I highly recommend.

I've not experienced Mich's or Goodyear's ever before so can't comment on them but have heard equally good things.

My Dunlops were down to 3mm on the rears and 5mm on the fronts, even only doing 100 miles in the new Conti's I can feel a vast improvement, even with the weather getting worse.

After having my heart set out on a 125i, I made the mistake of looking at the M135i's...and from what I've read they seem absolutely fantastic and now I really want to go for that. Basically no difference in insurance either.

In terms of fuel costs I do well below 10k miles a year. However, the odd trip across the country does pop up. Arggh decisions!

38-40MPG at 70mph on a long trip is very realistic in an M135i.

The fuel cost difference between a 125i and M135i for your sort of mileage is pennies.

I'm averaging over 34 MPG in my M135i. Regularly see 40 MPG on longer journeys.

Jus' saying! (You should buy one) :D

That's good to know, thank you. :)

34MPG for real? My 1.8 Civic is currently sitting at 30MPG mainly town driving so even if the 135i gets mid to low 20s then that isn't too bad!

It's funny, I was originally looking at 120D's, and then 125i's and now I am at the M135i.

Yep, I used to get about 34 MPG in my M135I.

The jump from 125i -> M135i is massive and well worth it... like others have said, the difference in fuel economy is negligible as the x35i is such a good engine.

The difference between the 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder engine is a world apart :)

Anyone had their local dealer offering new cars at consignment (cost) prices?

Local dealer claims they haven't hit their quotas and so need to get cars out the door before the end of the year. Say they can do it on any car, any spec, providing it can be registered before the end of the year. Also includes up to £5k deposit contribution from BMW, 5 years service inclusive and "drive now, pay 2016".

That's good to know, thank you. :)

my daily drive is under 3 miles and I was getting 28, long runs saw 40 quite easily if driving to NSL

Meaningless offer without some actual numbers behind it - how do the deals compare to what the brokers can achieve?

This is something I need to find out at the weekend... Do we think a broker like Broadspeed (for example) can potentially achieve a better "cost price" from BMW than a large group like Halliwell Jones?

Obviously I'll be going armed with broker prices and would expect "cost price" to be some way under those.

It sounds too good to be true - the broadspeed price on say a 330d is just over 30k. If they can beat that *and* offer a £5k contribution from BMW the deal is insane, I can't see it personally?

Small print on the website:

*Offers available on selected stock models. All cars must be registered by 31st December 2015.

Exactly my thoughts. However it seems they are some way off their quota and have also pre regged the maximum number of cars allowed. I queried the £5k contribution and they said this was included because its coming from BMW (not the dealer) on any new car, regardless of dealer margin, which in this case there is none.

Going to setup an appointment on Saturday and go see how the land lies. Was just intrigued if anyone had seen a similar offer or heard of this before.

EDIT: I asked about the stock models part and he said they could do it on any car as long as they can make it work and get it registered before end of year. Didn't seem phased when I said i'd be looking at something like a fairly high spec 340i or 435iGC.
