BMW and M Power Owners

Looking to do the rocker cover gasket on the BMW over Christmas/between Oban visits.

I am on a budget but don't want to do the job twice. I see ECP and GSF have them between £25-35 and many Viktor somethings on eBay. Is it worth going own as I've been reading?

What sort of price does the oem one come in at?

I *think" the OEM set is around £40 from bmminiparts but it's been a while since I've had to look

In theory it's just rubber - be annoying if you get it on and it doesn't quite fit for the sake of a tenner or so though

Sign up to bmwforums.info and ask on the Harry Fairbairn forum for a quote. They have been the best for me on most parts prices for BMW's, and even went to them for my 4 wheel alignment as they are only in Kirkcaldy, and at £99 were around £80 cheaper than my local dealer.

Elring and Victor Reinz are fine.

Morning all,

I'll be putting Michelin Pilot Sport 3's on my 330D estate soon. All corners.

Anyone got any feedback on them?

I used a Victor Reinz cam cover gasket and no issue with it.

Cheers guys.

Will look into what the 'premium' one GSF sell.

What is liquid sealant I should be using at the vanos hump bits?

I just used high temp oil + fuel resistant silicon, it was only a couple of quid for a tube. I put it on the vanos join and the 'half moons' at the back of the head also, I don't know if your motor will require it, I have an M52 engine.

A mish mash of utter tripe. Previous owner tracked it as well so the tyres are in a dire state.

Not sure if there is a price difference but the Pilot Super Sports seem to come more highly recommended than the PS3s

They should do, the PS3 are not upgrades to the PS2, bit of a naming con from Mich. The PSS are upgrades to the PS2. The PS3 are just standard road going tyres. They will of course be better than "utter tripe" :D

Aye, they really are tripe. I also ran the PS3's on my last motorbike (Ducati Multistrada 1200S) and yes I know, different ballpark entirely but I was so happy with them that I'm a bit of a Michelin fan now.

I do a lot of motorway running so didn't want the softer super sports.

I still need it on the half moon bits on the m54.

This should do the job?

GSF Confirmed the premium gasket is Victor reins so will pick that up.

Well I have picked up my new car. Its a 13 plate 520d Touring. Very happy with the car and only one niggle so far which is the tailgate window auto open is very slow to raise the glass. I'll have to get it checked in to BMW for a look.

Otherwise it is a lovely car, the paint is in great condition and surprisingly devoid of swirl marks and the wheels are also immaculate. I came back from Gloucester in it last night and I have to say that the HUD is fantastic. I was a little skeptical about it, however in use the way it presents the sat nav is really helpful and it does help in keeping an eye on your speed. I am also impressed with the adaptive headlights, they work very well and never failed to dip in good time for other road users.

All in all I am happy, I could have bought a 530d but I think this will do me for a couple of years!

My new favourite M3 colour : Individual San Marino Blue
