BMW and M Power Owners

Yes, in the context of a 15 year old, 6 cylinder, it's about right. The 2.8 / 2.8 VW VR6 engine was about as economical on a run too. So it's only about the same as similar examples.

It was credibly more efficient than competing similar configuration engines. The V6 in the Mondeo ST for example was always noticeably more thirsty.

The F10 is also heavier than the E39 though. That's like carrying 2 fat guys like me around everywhere.

530i E39 - Curb Weight (MT) : 1540kg
530d F10 - Curb weight 1720 kg

My 530i is 1605kg, no idea where that 1540 comes from. It's only 100kg lighter.

It actually does.

It's called 'context'.

Frankly I think it speaks volumes that despite 10 years of progress and a switch to the devils fuel my 530d is only 9mpg better..

I still find it amazing that the real world MPG of 2016 335/435i's is only 1 or 2 more than my 16 year old design E46 M3. I get 27mpg and that is without any regard for fuel consumption on fast A roads on a 12mile commute.

Anyone have any experiences buying Approved used?
Seen a couple of cars I fancy over the last week. One local branch the salesman was a young lad and he was just spouting so much crap I walked away. Seen another but its 200 miles away and price wise its obviously top-end dealer price and wonder if there is any scope for a good deal? Anyone ever managed to get BMW dealers to move at all on price? First lad nearly had a heart attack when we started talking money and offered a paltry £100 off. Is it a case of take it or leave it at the dealers?

Different dealers work differently. I got £1k off my 335d without even asking for it. To be honest, that's my only dealing with BMW AUC though.

But I do believe dealers like Strathstone don't take any money off for any reason. But I do think they are quite fairly priced to start with usually.

My success ranges from several thousand pounds to a straight refusal to even drop a tenner off.

I got quite a discount of my F10, of the top of my head it was up for nearly 24k and i got it for about 22k, can't remember off the top of my head the exact figures, got it on my paperwork at home though. It was a combination of over book price part ex (I got £3.5k for my Audi A6 that was worth 2.5k trade) then i got £500 off the sticker price on first negotiations, then another £500 off after i almost backed out of the deal. Then finally i got £100 towards new tyres as i kicked up a fuss about the scraping on the front tyres.

That's my first time buying from BMW AUC.

Just dunno if I'm jelling with this car I have now, looks awesome, feel good to step in and out of but it just doesn't give me that buzz when driving, think I just bought it because of the name, somet flashy-ish.

Given I only drive a car when I fancy going on a hoon/drive, I think I might of picked the wrong car.

Starting to think I should have gone for a VXR8 or Evo 10 or somet daft like that.

Great car, nice to drive but just doesn't have any character if you know what I mean. The ST220 made me grin every time I took it out for a thrash. Not regretting anything, maybe a bit of sun might change my mind, we'll see.

If you purely wanted a toy the 325i is a very strange choice. It is not a performance car, it's a capable and efficient everyday car. I find the performance on offer from that engine in 25i form underwhelming at best and that was in a car without a huge metal folding roof mechanism...

You'd have been better off in a 335i, far more of an event, more noise, more performance, etc.

Interesting, did they end up giving you over book value for your car?

Yeah they did, only just though. Part ex was something like 9.5k for excellent condition. I ended up getting 10.7. It is worth noting though that the car was absolutely pristine. Not a single scratch, dent or even stone chip externally, carpets and seats looked as new internally.

Yup, thought the badge, trim and roof would keep me happy.

The internet put me off the 335. The 2 cars I went to look at first was 330's and being a impatient man I settled with the 325 as I was fed up of looking at cars/autotrader lol.

Absaloutly love the look of the thing. Just a bit boring when I want to thrash the ****** off of it with it being so refined. Saying that though, the handling is awesome. Just the engine is bit meh. My fault, I know.

Bah have you not looked at anything Jap turbo? I know what you mean bmw's are great but the lesser models lack that sense of occasion.

I think the problem here is just that engine in that car rather than anything like that - it's not as if a Mondeo ST220 is an exotic supercar is it.

It's not - however the 325i Isn't a m3 is it. Even a 335 wouldn't bring the sense of occasion that an m3 brings. Like you said before it depends on what you want the car for.

Workmate recommended a BMW Specialist in Portsmouth he's been using for as long as he's owned BMWs, Alexander Autos BMW Specialist. Went to have a chat and look round yesterday and the workshop is very clean but quite small, just about big enough to work on 2 cars really. Nice place, nice people and they have a nice dog too, plus workmate said he can pick me up and drop me off if need be and it's a weekday :D

This is ideal as my current indy isn't open on weekends and as such I catch the train into work (they drop me off and pick me up which is nice) after dropping my car off to them extra early. Inconvenient sometimes because the trains usually have delays and I need to leave an hour early to get to Fareham through traffic :/
