BMW and M Power Owners

Hmm, tried a frugal 70 mile run in my M3 on Friday, albeit in ridiculous rain and only got it up to 31mpg at about 70mph. Surprised you're able to get 33mpg.
Any journey I can get cruise on for a period of time I'll get just over 30, but it doesn't take much for me to be down below 20 mpg . Saying that mine is slammed at the moment so less drag possibly, will see what happens when I get oem suspension on it.

Have you seen an M2 in the flesh? really does look good. Im not a massive fan on the look of the cayman/s, GTS is better however i do LOVE the GT4.

To be fair 2 series are ten a penny but the M2 will defiantly get some looks, BMW have done a great job...

Yep, sat in one and revved the engine too, sounded pretty much the same as the M3/4. The 981 is a much better place to be in and it definitely looks better. I'd rather an F30 M3.

I'm kind of glad I didn't put a deposit down on one now seeing what the price is. I think it's just too high to be honest.

That said, I love the way it looks and goes, and I'm sure it would be excellent to drive as well...but it's just so much money, doubly so when you look at the discounts available on the M4.

The big discounts are not what they were, they ended in March but they will be back sometime. It seems to be the better car too, most reviews suggest it's quicker and I think the crappy damping on the M4/3 put me off it. Funny as the sales guy today was also telling me the M4 Competition pack was not on the road yet....well until I shared 2 pictures of friends driving theres on UK roads. Where do they find these people.

If the M2 has all the creature comforts of this 4 series I have at the moment and handles as well or better than my Z4M I am going to seriously consider one once the convertible version comes out.

Lovely, a good stealthy pocket rocket.. Amazing to think the E46 M3 was considered quick back in the day, now, it's just pretty average.

300+ bhp isn't average today any more than it was when the e46 M3 was launched, the fact the M3 can still hold its own today should tell you all you need to know about what an epic machine it was in its day and still is today.

Had a good nose around the M2. Lovely looking car, not sure it's worth over 50K but they look lovely and sounded nice too when started. Sadly I then had to listen to the sales guy telling me how "they will only make 2000" and "you won't get one for months". I then told him they would make more than 2000, it's not a limited run car and I have the option on one if I want one, which I don't. Coffee was OK mind.

Lol did the sales person say all that with a straight face. And what was his response when you called him out?

Spotted a bright orange M4 yesterday (no pics as I was driving). Looked fantastic. It wasn't the burnt orange/bronze which there are quite a few of. Not sure if was wrapped or individual special colour?

Also spotted a F10 550i and the two rectangular exhausts on each side look far better than the round on one side. They should have put them on the whole range like the E Class.

They're trapezia, and it's a good way of showing a bit of difference between the range - Dual exhausts on the left for the low-end models, one on each side for the 535s and trapezia for the 550i and M550d.

I dislike the way Audi have stuck the big rectangular exhausts based on trim - I thought the fat exhausts were reserved for the twin-turbo diesels but in fact it's just the Ultra-spec :(
Mercedes hide them behind the bumper now on the lower models C and E-Classes, like Peugeot.

No they shouldn't - it's actually nice that BMW have kept the special looking exhausts for the special cars and not just done an Audi where every crap 2 litre dagdag has a huge exhaust either side of the car or Merc where the very impressive exhaust setup turns out to be fake plastic on a 220.

While I understand both your points and agree that it's nice for certain touches to be reserved for high end models. But the fact is that aside from people like us who look out for or notice these nerdy small details the rest of the general car buying public care purely for aesthetics. The exhausts each side look far nicer than 2 small round ones on one side. That's presumably what matters for manufacturers such as Audi and Merc, instead of reserving them for a very small percentage of buyers of the big engines. As ultimately it's still a normal 5 series with just a bigger engine, it's not an M5.

So there we go then - if you want all the show and no go, buy an Audi ;)
:D

I think this is a truly British approach to buying cars. As Fox says, it's all show and no go in the UK. The cars are poverty-spec but with massive wheels and sports bodykits. It's all about keeping up appearances.
This unfortunately makes it very difficult to find top-spec cars on the second hand market that aren't Beige. Or have a massive mark up due to the spec.

It's really quite sad - even the 3 litre diesels are rare these days. It's just a sea of minimum spec, maximum bodykit, biggest wheels, smallest engine options.

Whereas in Germany you see mostly the reverse - high specification yet smaller wheels, rarer prevalence of Sport models, etc.

Isn't the reason for this more so that most Mercs, BMWs, Audi's are leased and the cheapest/best deals are usually on the smaller Diesel engines.

I'm well aware of the perils of trying to buy a nice petrol saloon. I spent a long time looking for a petrol W211 E320 or E280 and gave up and bought a Jag. That was the old shape, the current one is probably impossible to find in a petrol!

Everyone and their dog has company cars here in Belgium, and the vast majority are small-engined diesels. But the difference is that they take specification over bodykits (usually). You get all sorts of option 'packs' which give huge savings over individual options, but generally people choose those over sports packs.
Unless you drive an A class or an Audi A6, in which case you take the double zorst AMG or Audi Double Ultra Black Black Double Black Ultra pack :p

People use their cars to blat up and down the autobahn - smaller wheels and softer suspension are more comfortable than sports suspension and dubs :p
Tax is another issue - it's relatively low in Germany.

Here in Belgium, Flanders has redone its car tax system so bigger-engined cars (and petrols) are becoming more popular slowly, but Brussels and Wallonia still use a horrifically out-dated system based on engine size and power output. Think Ireland-level of taxes.

Yep it's very unfortunate, I usually end up being roped in to help search for cars for family members / friends and the number premium marque cars which have next to no spec is ridiculous. There are people still buying Mercedes with half cloth seats, non heated, non electric seats (to give an example) - in my head it defeats the purpose of buying a luxury car if it has no luxury options aside from the badge. Ah well, everyone's different I suppose...

It's a 2nd tier individual colour called Fire Orange.
