BMW and M Power Owners

Also, worth noting the AGA tool kit that is now available to do this job without removing the heads!

Makes this a MUCH cheaper and quicker job

Ah yes, this was discussed quite a bit when mine went in. I opted for the engine out option because I wanted new head gaskets in, the chain inspected & a general look over the rest of the engine. All in all, a thorough job was performed :D If it's not necessary or wanted however, leaving the engine in obviously makes the operation considerably less painful.

Dare I ask what your bill was? Was it a main dealer, or indi job?

Hey BMW owners,

I'm planning to upgrade to an e93 over the next couple months coming from a clio 182.

I have a budget of £8,000-£9,000 and was wondering if I could get a tidy one at this price range. I've seen plenty on a 07-09 plate with about 60-80k on the clock.

Any comments of what to look out for; engine, reliability etc would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance :)

EDIT: Forgot to mention that im looking for a 325 which I believe is a 3.0l.

Has anyone with an older BMW worked out a decent solution for connecting an iPhone 6 (or anyone iPhone with lightning connection) to the auxillary port in the back of their head unit?

I can think of lots of potential solutions, but what I'd really love is to have the following, but the cable on the left only appears to exist on America. Any suggestions?

Worth noting that the only solution I see as acceptable is one where you only ever have to plug one lead into your phone.

The alternative is Bluetooth at this point...

Back from my custom map on my 120D, very pleased, the car is a lot quicker on the road and still has smooth power delivery. Just feels more keen to rev from about 1500 upwards without labouring and far more torquey on the road. Well worth the money :) Done about 100 miles to make sure no issues and all is good, quite good fun for a 4 pot diesel now!

That's why it's a bit flat at very low revs then :) I assume he just goes easy on the clutch on the rollers which is fine as I won't boot it at those kind of revs myself. Quite a jump in power, I am actually quite impressed with it considering how bland the "power delivery" was before. It picks up far better at 1200+ than that print out suggests. Obviously it needs to be on boost to move but doesn't labour too badly not.

Booked in to Kwik-Fit on Saturday to attempt a re-gas of my aircon. The fact that it's stopped working on a 4 year old car makes me very sure it's not going to need "just a regas innit" so I will either walk away paying £50 for fixed AC, or they'll refund me as they couldn't do it and then it's off to BMW to be fixed under warranty.

I thought this plan was foolproof until a friend mentioned a highly likely cause will be a chip in my AC radiator which would not be covered under warranty. Bugger.

Your best play here is to book it into BMW instead. They'll insist on regassing it first, at your cost, but it's not much more than Kwik Fit anyway and puts you straight on the route to the next resolution if it isn't a regas it needs.

I don't see what you gain by paying Kwik Fit 50 quid to do it. Because if it does turn out to be broken BMW will still insist they regas it first..

My local dealer was £65 for the regas.

You set on an e93? e90 not in the mix?

My warranty excess is £250, hence not going straight to them.

If Kwik Fit are unable to re-gas the system then they don't charge, and from having done research they don't fob you off with excuses, if it doesn't work then they genuinely don't charge. This then puts me back at square 1 but knowing that the system is faulty, if it's an issue that will be covered under warranty then it's off to BMW to be fixed, if it's damage that won't be covered then it will go to one of the good independents that's local to me.

Your warranty excess is only applicable to a warranty claim - whatever happens you're paying for a regas outside of the warranty.

£250 excess was a mistake, it's the worst option :( Generally £100 excess offers the best value, £250 only seems to save money if you claim 0 times over a year and if thats the case the best option was no warranty anyway :p

You need more than 2 claims for £0 to be cheapest.

If its broken its quite likely it'll initially work and then stop working at a future point once all the gas has gone again...

Pretty much my take on it, I was basically going to do whatever you said, so that's your/my job done here :D

I honestly never got the fuss with z4's then the more i looked at the things the more they grew on me.
I then sat in one. Now I fully understand your man love.

Interestingly my Mum just got an E89 and I'm really impressed with it. It's a massive step forward from her E85 and the interior is a genuinely nice place to be rather than a cheap plastic mess in the previous model. A solid upgrade. Just make sure you get one with Navigation and Cruise as neither are standard.
