monopoly no way, played a game at uni with lasted 7 days on and off. the level of tension was unbareable at the end of each session we had to take photo of people cash card and the board so there could be no cheating.

I vehemently dislike Monopoly due to playing it when I was younger without really knowing how to make the most of it.

Talking of games we used to play as kids, my sister used to be able to beat the whole family at Cluedo in literally 3 turns when she was about 10. I still have no idea how she did it. I'm guessing she had some system about what she asked and then just paid massive attention to what other people asked, or something, but how the fudge she figured it out at that age is a mystery to me. I bet she'd still destroy me at it.

cluedo is easy, its just a case of dumping the grid that comes witht he game and do your own.

Well this thread hasn't bought memories of my not too distant youth come flooding back. I'm a real sucker for boardgames.

atmosphere was awesome as was risk and game of life. I can't believe someone else also had stratego. Right time for some more.

rummikub (not strictly a board game)
payday
escape from atlantis
cluedo

Waddington's Go, the international travel game.

60's fantastic, not all that mega expensive from the auctions. Loved playing that with the family.

Another two would be On the buses, and Go for broke

Risk
Monopoly
Scrabble (recently played this with mates after getting in hammered, so funny)
The game of life
Cluedo back in the day was fun

Become a fan of backgammon after spending a month in Greece, they love it over there.

Escape from Colditz was my favorite as a kid, one player controls the prison guards and the rest control the escapees, you get cards like disguise, rope, etc and move around the prison.

Guys I don't want to spam this forum but I know someone whole sells board games from across the globe and practically sells every board game that is out there.

Not sure if I can post the link so I won't but PM me if you want the link. If it is OK to post the link as board games sellers aren't really in competition with OcUK then if allowed I'll post the link.

Don't think anyone has said Pictionary yet, that's very fun.
Othello is a nice change from Chess, perhaps not as 'indepth' but great nonetheless.
I have fond memories of playing 'TREK' on a very old board, but still in great nick.

For epic strategy games, definitely Diplomacy, and Risk for lighter strategy..

Risk causes arguments, Diplomacy ruins friendships :D

My friends and I once played Risk, some years ago. I got so frustrated that they weren't taking it as seriously as I was that I ended up throwing the board in the air and storming up to my bedroom and didn't return for the rest of the evening. They've never played with me since.
It's a bloody stupid game, awful awful awful thing should be illegal! I absolutely love it though :D

Frustration is another awful game that causes arguments.

Only played monopoly and risk.

As a side note, has anyone tried the World of Warcraft board game? Its price tag deters me to even consider buying it so its always remained a question mark.

I used to love the old FASA games like Battletech (which Mechwarrior was based on) I had the complete set of that including allot expansions, The star trek one which was kinda like bridge commander with you allocating power to diffrent weapons/sheilds/movement.

Also like battle cars and blood bowl for games workshop.

And car wars was the step up from battle cars but was more along the line warhammer being a table top game rather than a board game, also did warthammer 40k for abit.
And to think I used to wonder why I had trouble finding girl freinds back then ;)

Actually i'd love a turn based Warhammer 40k game Dawn of war with turns would be cool, suits my play style more than RTS's
