Boinc Pentathlon

Not sure that I can offer that great a contribution, but I'll set the couple of computers I have available to do WGC and Einstein once they get over their current work - they were chasing down Mr Hanluc in Asteroids, and getting very close :D.

Yes, I had noticed
Thanks for helping out ;)

Not sure with Einstein on the best settings. I see that it's supposed to be GPU for this challenge, yet there are CPU WUs too?

I wouldn't bother doing the CPU tasks they pale into insignificance compared to the production of GPUs.

In theory I've turned off the Einstein CPU. But it still downloaded and wants to run the things :(

The only thing I can think of is if the computer location is different, that is if you're editing the default Einstein comp settings but your computer location is set to something different. Where it says 'Computers on this account' is the computer 'location' blank or does it say home, work or school? blank is default.

...You've altered your settings here haven't you?

Just a reminder that the 5 day Mariacontrol.net challenge starts tomorrow at 1am our time.

Also yoyo@home starts at 1 am Monday the 11th our time. There are currently 4 sub projects available, Cruncher, Muon, Evolution and Ecm, I got work for all except Evolution. The deadlines for Cruncher & Ecm were just a few hours after the start of the challenge so i'd given those sub projects a day or so if anyone wants to bunker them now, however Muon was 5 days after so they're good to go. Yoyo work preferences can be edited here.

It's looking pretty close for 19th spot on WCG, AMD users are just a few thousand behind us :(

I've tried to resurrect my 4P rig to do the malariacontrol thing. Timing for that could have been good as I won't be around towards the end of the pentathlon thingy and machines will then be "not on".

But the 4P is being crashed by malaria. No idea why. :( Of the 64 CPU threads it's probably only 25% that show 100% use at any one time with others at random 0% or anything inbetween. It's not a RAM or Disk space issue as there is plenty of both unused according to the system monitor. At the moment I can't even get BOINC Manager to let me in to the advance settings, it's just stuck "communicating with BOINC Client".

I saw this before with some other BOINC projects, can't remember which. It was OK on Pogs when we did that thing last year so it must be something to do with the project needing something I don't know about.

In the boinc client: tools/computer preferences/processor usage/on multiprocessor systems, use at most ... make sure it is at 100% I remember reading that multi procs like yours don't like the default 0%, which should equate to 100%, actually change it to 100%. The communicating with boinc client problem, I would guess that the manager is running but not the client, or your trying to run two instances, reboot your machine.

MGP, have you tried running it on WCG?

Oh I've just seen post #85 :( the only thing I can suggest is to update boinc see that does anything, I know the linux boinc package in the repository is usually an older version. You could do a direct download from boinc and install it manually.

We have a chance to pull back a spot on malaria, as we are slowly gaining on 20th, but I agree we are too few in number to make an impact. We are however doing OK on WCG, 19th spot isn't in danger and the last 24 hours we've out produced the 3 other teams immediately above us.

Any idea what would be best for my AMD 285 (overclocked)?

I'd say the same, the 'Parkes PMPS XT' unit's. You could even try running 2 at once, where it says "dangerous" change from 1 to 0.5 (0.33 is 3 at once, 0.25 is 4 .. etc) I have a 7970 which is the same as a 280x and I do two tasks at once. Check something like msi afterburner for your GPU usage to see if it's worth it.

I've just looked up the AMD 285 which is comparable to a 7950 which I'm also running, doing two tasks at once, each tasks takes just over an hour and a half, I have to change the CPU processor usage to 75% though when running CPU tasks otherwise it increases the GPU runtimes too much.

wow up 8 places to 9th on Einstein@Home :)

It was the massive dump we took yesterday :o TBH we are in a false position, 4 teams immediately behind us have out produced us quite a bit in the last 12 hours, we are scheduled to drop to 12/13th by the end, unless we get some reinforcements.

On malaria the best we can hope for now is 20th, the team behind us have been nipping at our heels for days now, hopefully we can keep them at bay for the remaining 1.5 days.

Slow start on yoyo, we're currently 17th, I'll switch over fully once malaria finishes.

Looking good on WCG, gaining slowly on the 3 teams above :)
