Books without films

I honestly can't think of a book I've read and enjoyed that hasn't been made into a film. I've been thinking for a while now and not thought of one.

[edit]A-ha! The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant haven't been put to film and they're excellent books.

I'm halfway through the Illearth War (again) :)

Never been a big fan of Stephen King. Is it different to his other stuff.

It is quite different to his other stuff, well worth a read if you like epics. Compelling storyline and unlike me and many others who had to wait in between books, you can read it all in one go. :)

Many people knock Stephen King and I'm sure many critics have had their moments too, but for sheer storytelling, he's one of the best. There's definitely been a big change in his books since the early nineties, moving away from out and out horror based stories to more thought provoking and heavily built character storylines.

I'm amazed that not one single Douglas Coupland book has been made into a film. I'd love to see a film version of Girlfriend in a Coma.

The Player of Games by Iain M Banks. Apparently Pathe Guild had the option to film and even mentioned Luc Besson as a possible director. There's also a rumour that Cruise has the rights to Consider Phlebus.

The Stainless Steel Rat series by Harry Harrison is just begging to be made into a film/TV series, especially with the recent trend of revamping old science fiction stories into big budget blockbusters.

Also, Making History by Stephen Fry would make a superb film in some form or other. Great concept.

The Amtrak Wars series by Patrick Tilley. There have been movies of it touted in the past and a film company has the rights, but nothing yet. :(

The day before midnight by Stephen Hunter
For that matter, anything by Stephen Hunter! His books are perfect for your thriller action movies.

Amazed none of the david eddings books have been made into film... but not really unhappy about it as have yet to see a film with a mage fight done well.

All the Star wars books from the time scale of after the current films... which had concepts SOO much better than the three films they actually made.

The Hatchet series by Gary Paulsen.

Rats by James Herbert.

A film based on James Herberts book was made back in 1982. It went under the name Deadly Eyes . Yes, it was terrible.

A book I've just finished reading would make an amazing film "The Damage Done". About a Aussie that was arrested in Thailand for heroin smuggling and did 12 years in Bangkok prison.

Any of the Michael Marshall Smith novels; Only Forward, Spares or One of Us (or am I the only one here who's read these?)

Dreamworks were going to do Spares but the Island ripped it off and got in there first! Work has started on an adaptation from Hell Heth Enlarged Herself but that was only a short story. Spares would've made an awesome film too :(
