Are you going to read the first book of the third TC trilogy?

I'd compeltely forgotten about this! I may wait until the trilogy is complete but I'd really love to know how he brings Covenant back.

Grrr! I may have to put this one on my Christmas list ;)

Thanks for your comments on HDM, I still plan on reading it as I'd never heard of it before and bought it on a recommendation from here. I'll probably start it later this week if I get Wintersmith finished up.

Seconded and also the Rama series by Clarke although the first one is due out in movie form soon...
I've been keeping tabs on this for years, didn't think anything was going to come of it though? I would LOVE for the quadrilogy to be made into films :) Also Greg Bear's "Eon", I would literally be moist with anticipation

I can't remember their names, but I've read a few Star Trek books that had fantastic stories and would have made great films.

The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks was a great adventure Epic.

No worries :)

I'd put it up there with the first 6. Not sure when the next is due.

be ashamed, its amazing :P
I'd much rather be ashamed of not knowing it was a game than not knowing it was a book ;)

One of the stories featuring Walker Boh might make for an interesting film, but why remake Lord of the Rings with a slightly different name?

I'm amazed Brooks got away with it in print. New Line's solicitors would be all over it if they tried to film it.

Any of the Michael Marshall Smith novels; Only Forward, Spares or One of Us (or am I the only one here who's read these?)

Dreamworks were going to do Spares but the Island ripped it off and got in there first! Work has started on an adaptation from Hell Heth Enlarged Herself but that was only a short story. Spares would've made an awesome film too :(
In 1994 I bought 'Only Forward' on the spur of the moment, I've been reading his books ever since. By far my favourite writer, I also like his Michael Marshall books. Only Forward, Spares and One of Us are my favourite books though.

I would like to see them on screen, though I doubt they would live up to the books fully.

Albert Camus's L'Étranger. It's short, it's simple, it's powerful in its message and it seems like it would be really easy to make into a great film. I have no idea why it hasn't been.

Made in Italian "Lo Straniero"

As for my own "why not?", I'm amazed no-one has tried to make a film of The Ballad of Halo Jones. Not strictly a book as it was a comic strip long before it was collected into a graphic novel but it is a truly fabulous story with great visuals.

Name books which you are amazed have not been made into films.

For me, Ringworld by Larry Niven.

You would get people saying it was a Halo ripoff though.

But yes, it could make a great film if done right.

The Nights Dawn Trilogy by Peter F Hamilton.

Would be the *ultimate* SF/ Space trilogy if ever made.

God, I hope someone does make it into a trilogy of films one day.......

I would love to see this done, but fear it would be very watered down and probably with poor effects, not to mention you'd need about 2-3 films for each of the novels (it's one I suspect could however be made into a great anime series by Production IG given their GITS:SAC series).

I'd back Excession as a movie, it could be great and would be a good introduction to the whole Culture universe (opening the way for more of the books to be made into films).

Any of the Kay Scarpetta novels by Patricia Cornwell

I read on her website a couple of years ago that there were talks going on about one of them being turned into a film. Nothing seems to have come of if though.

Can't decide who might play her in the film though, anyonewho has read any of them got any ideas??

The 1st 3 would be excellent. Sadly her work afterwards has been shocking. Gave up on Cornwell after Cause Of Death.
