Exactly my point, instead of people spending it on car leases etc to Willy Wave. Money can go towards a deposit if they really want a mortgage.
I wouldn't blame the parents, some people are crap with money and refuse to change.
Then they move to where the jobs are. My parents and grandad did from another country to the UK, easier these days with the internet and the knowledge of gaining new skills.
Takes motivation and hard work.

When I got my mortgage 15% deposit was required, and house prices are £350k, so that's 52.5k plus expenses.

It is really. If my daughter ends up going to Uni and getting a job but needs to live with us. I have no problem with that but a slice of her earned will go to me which will go into an account for her future mortgage.
Not saying you shouldn't do it but I'd have felt quite hurt if my parents had done that - I'd rather they blew it on drugs and prostitutes than turned around and said hey here is your money we saved for you.
So? Either move for a while to where there are jobs where they can afford a house, or rent. It's their lifestyle option ultimately.
Ah yeah just move to Durham to so you can work in a **** job for **** pay to mortgage a **** house.
I’m sure there are some financial service jobs up north, but most assuredly not worth bothering with and no doubt hotly contested for what little there is.
The jobs are in London, end of story.
Not everyone works in financial services, even Londoners.
Plenty of housing options without requiring a six figure salary (or two in the case of couples).
Plenty of jobs in the location being referred to there: Oxford.
Not sure where the financial service job discussion was, and scrolling up I haven't seen that so maybe you're thinking of someone else?
I've moved around job location loads, even abroad. For the past few years I've worked in London for the first time, and because after 20+ years of working I live somewhere with reasonable rail links and the right opportunity came up. No doubt I'll move somewhere else at some point, I get bored being in the same place for a long time and rather than moan about it on the internet I get off my arse.
I know it can be a bit hard for someone that lives a more detached lifestyle to understand but it really isn't a realistic option for everyone.

I'm 27 and work a seasonal job and stay at parents house during the winter. Have never rented or owned a home, and have little savings because i have a car and go out sometimes. My pention is virtually nil due to the minimum wage jobs i've had and any extra savings i do get are used to invest and trade cryptocurrency. I trust this a lot more than a pention.
I could have bought a flat (and been financially crippled) but haven't as I would only need to stay in it over the winter due to job, and am looking towards becoming a freelance skiing instructor and getting experience in paddling aswell in the future if I enjoy work this year coaching on a river.
Buying somewhere without having the financial backing to maintain payments seems like it would force family to help you, which is what I saw a comment about before. But to have a chance at getting on the ladder, I wouldn't say that those people are doing a bad thing as it then forces you to live away from your parents even though they would have to help with the morgage, but at least you arn't staying in thier home.

Isn't that really your fault for training into an oversubscribed job then moaning about it? My company is based in East Midlands and I could list off 20+ well paid jobs 60k+ annual available now. A very large house here only costs 400k. You would live a very comfortable lifestyle. Beautiful countryside and a short throw from cities.
