Boots Opticians - Rant Time

Don't go to a health and beauty shop for your glasses. Go to an actual opticions.

i've never had an eye test, but i'm under the impression they will try to sell you a pair of glasses whatever your vision is like?

Not true. I need glasses, have done since I was in primary school (31 now) and twice now Specsavers have sent me away saying my vision hadn't changed enough to warrent new glasses.

To be clear, this was an unbranded opticians respected and Boots took them over. They will not get my business again.

Boots opticians have been the worst and most expensive on the high street for years, I have wore glasses since I was a kid, and have always shopped around,

every few years I go back to Boots to see what they can offer, it is always overpriced and their frames are ****

should have gone....damn

The optician I use gives me the complete opposite impression. As long as what you're doing is comfortable, not damaging to your eyes and not needing a tweak to get perfect sight, then they will not intervene.

I used to use D&A. Expensive but good. Then they "merged" with Boots (read: Boots took them over).

What a total shower they are now. My wife had very similar situation as you. Ended up getting two pairs of glasses for free. I'm due an eye test. Going to try and find if there are any independents left round here.

Last week, when Vision Express told me I had a cataract, they tested to see if they could improve my current vision with glasses. Although it was slightly improved, they told me it wasn't worth it and could be a waste of money. So no, they don't just try to sell you glasses.

I had a few issues with my latest pair of glasses from Boots, took a couple of weeks to get them adjusted to be ok. The lens were correct but the fitting was wrong meaning they were in the wrong position and thus weren't focusing properly.

I've tried Spec Savers and Vision Express before now and they were appallingly bad (and my eyesight is very very bad and I can't use any of the online glasses sellers which are normally recommended as they don't cover my prescription.)

Reminds me I'm due a sight test.

I have been using specsavers since I started to pay for my glasses myself. I had to go few months ago since my old ones (2-3 years old) lenses were in a pretty bad shape so was going to buy new ones anyways. Had a free test found out my eye sight had gone worse again and bought glasses for £40 as they had the nicest frame. The ones before I got 2 pairs for 60€ + extra for one pair to make the lenses thinner (Im pretty blind). Its great value and the glasses last pretty good time when you think I have to wear them all the time and only take them off when sleeping. So yes should have gone to specsavers :D
