Boots Opticians - Rant Time

I always go to our local Specsavers, the manager is a relative of a friend. Never had a problem there in the past 10 years.

And he did a deal on my son's glasses. Got 2 pairs free with NHS vouchers, even though my lad's got a big head and has to wear adult frames.

The only problem with glasses in our house is that my beloved other half wears them for about a month and then loses them. She's lost 3 pairs... :/

In 20 years of using boots opticians, I've never had a single problem aside from the complexity of moving your account to a different store, which has got a little better now.
Basically, it sucks to be you.

Just got my first pairs from visiion express, barring oakley breaking a lens during manufacturing on my shades had no problems so far.

But, my other half pointed out that they are meant to fit the glasses? I havent had any fitting beyond when trying on pairs being told they do/dont fit me?

Also thinking that next time I will just go online, I have a pretty mild prescription and having googled the models I bought, both are around half price. Is there generally any problem with going online after trying some pairs in a shop?

Sorry Housey, that's all I can picture in my mind. :D

I've used one of my local Tesco opticians for years now. Free tests and then get my glasses from Glasses Direct at a much cheaper price point than anyone with a store can match. No problems at all.

It pays to be careful though. The iother Tesco opticians near me is shockingly bad.

If you can go into an opticians and then be told you don't need glasses, but they will do you some if want them, then nothing surprises me really.

I used to use D&A. Expensive but good. Then they "merged" with Boots (read: Boots took them over).

What a total shower they are now. My wife had very similar situation as you. Ended up getting two pairs of glasses for free. I'm due an eye test. Going to try and find if there are any independents left round here.

Same here.

D&A were friendly and had good staff. Boots seem to have staff who are "doing their time" before going to a real opticians.

They arsed up new glasses two years ago and trying out new contact lenses was like some sort of Fawlty Towers episode.

Fortunately, my wife uses an independent that is one of the best around so I will never have to visit Boots again.

seems like a very "clear" situation, they hire people who use their products and then give them the wrong lenses too :p
But I agree specsavers need to get some "perspective" on this and stop annoying their customers by being so "near sighted" that they can't deal with a simple request

You should punch them and when the Police arrive just tell them you don't know what happened it was all a bit of a blur.

I used them for years too. I moved to Boots at the suggestion of my father due to the aforementioned family history. My father is under a Harley Street consultant for his eyes and the optician recommended by one of the very finest eye specialist on the planet was the chap who worked from this shop. Hence why we go there for our testing, my father commutes from Devon to do so. However, the shop is poor and I shall go elsewhere in the future for glasses.

The optician has other practices, this one was just convenient.

Boots are my opticians (took over Dolland & Atkinson) never had a problem with the glases.

However last year I thought I would try contacts, just couldnt get on with them however like you the pescriptions were all incorrect. 3 times I kept going back (after having to leave work early to make appointment) but never could get on with them due to the ineptness.

In the end just gave up, keeping the glasses at 50% off and will just go to specsavers or even an independant next time.

Bit stuck on which optician to use - might have to look into what local ones where are - used to use D&A who were professional and knowledgeable but IMO a little too eager to keep recommending new stronger lenses - starting to need new glasses again but boots have been poor from other family experiences and not really one for places like specsavers.

I've used Costco for glasses and contacts for around 15 years and would never go elsewhere.

Excellent service and fairly cheap frames whenever I buy them
