Boots Opticians - Rant Time

For me it isn't about the money, it's about how effortless their service is. If it isn't effortless then I will go elsewhere. Anyway I am talking to their CS team so lets see what they come up with.

It's just the way of things. Boots sell really cheap (price and quality) frames into which they put cheap lenses, which are put there by people who are probably earning minimum (or thereabouts) wage and who may well, as a result, not really be too fussed about striving to achieve constant perfection in their work product.

If your budget means you have to deal with the Boots, Vision Express, Specsavers of this world then they're all going to be similar.

I never use any of them and stick to independent opticians, who often have better and more varied selections of higher-quality frames and who take individual pride int he product they sell and the service they provide and avoid this type of scenario.

My frames were Police and D&G, when I added lightweight lenses and some other tweaks I spent circa 650 quid for 2 pairs.

...and to add I have used an indi for years, but their optician in house and his tools were far from leading edge. My first round of glasses from Boots circa 3 years ago were the best prescription I have ever had.

Service is about the people in the chain, you can't tie it to a brand always. There a lots of crap indi's who will sell you expensive rubbish and bad prescriptions.

I have to say Ive always had very good service from my local vision express.

The most noted example being when after 5 weeks one of the lens in one of my pair of glasses developed a stress crack and they shipped me a brand new complete set of glasses all the way to South Korea cause i was assigned there with work for a year and couldnt make an 8k mile trip to sort out my glasses.

All done with a smile (on the phone ane email anyway) and a sorry for the problem, they never even saw the broken lens but were very helpful.

Last time I used Boots (probally 20 years ago) they got my left and right eye the wrong way round.

You paid over the odds to have names on your frames then. Whenever I've had glasses I've tried out the gucci, fcuk, police, etc and found them to be absolutely crap. More style over function. I've found the specsavers top range frames to be much better, with sturdy hinges, bendy frames and a much better fit. Do you mean to say that because you paid silly money for named glasses that you should demand a better service?

You clearly need to change opticians.

WTF?

1) I expect good service no matter how much I spend. FOUR attempts to get a lens the correct specification is terrible service...and I await their 4th attempt, it might still be wrong.

2) I did not purchase my glasses based on what as on the label, I chose them based on which ones I felt, and my wife felt, suited my face. My previous glasses were no brand bought from an independent.

My comment on price/brand was to refute the ludicrous point made above about people who shop their are on minimum wage, typically, which in my case and my fathers case is somewhat amiss.

What have your dads got to do with anything?
