Borderlands 3

Wont stop me buying it, but then I dont buy into the whole anti-epic store hysteria anyway.
I mean it's not hysteria... Though I think like they did with Obsidian, they just bribed them to not put it on Steam, it will still be on other services so maybe they'll be okay.

Otherwise it will be 88% of thousands over 70% of millions, REALLY bad maths at 2K.

By hysteria, I really meant that it seems to me that there are a lot of people and a lot of streamers who tend to jump on "anti" causes like this, not particularly because they have the opinion themselves but because most of us are by nature , sheep and want to be with the in-crowd, and the Epic store hatred has reached crazy proportions imo.

As I've said many times on this forum, I dont care what launcher a game uses, to me its purely nothing more than a launcher and there is 100% absolutely no chance at all that I will stubbornly refuse to buy a game that I really want (cue Borderlands 3) because its on launcher X. I'm sure that some people will refuse to though and while they are cuddling their principals, I'll be enjoying my 300th hour of Borderlands 3 :p

1 billion weapons

That's not many. Consider you have the basic types: Assault rifle, Grenade, SMG, Shotgun, Pistol, Rocket Launcher, and Sniper Rifle (plus whatever else) from each of 5+ different manufacturers in 5+ different elemental flavours (or explosive... ahem EXPLOSIVE) in 5+ qualities from white to pearlescent, each with a variety of different components (grip, barrel, stock, sight, etc) in different combinations, and the number scales very quickly indeed.

For my sins, this is going to be a day 1 purchase.

Now tell me, looking at the trailer, is it Uncanny Valley or has Lilith fallen to the dark side? Ellie seems to have gone out of business, and I saw a couple of other locations that looked familiar too.

Don't have to explain yourself, I'd even get it on Epic too if I hadn't decided to never touch it. There will always be sheep, but it's definitely not accurate to say everyone refusing to use Epic's barebones launcher is doing it go along with the crowd. The reality is, Epic want to force their marketshare onto us through the objectively worst launcher available by bribing out all the games we want to play.

I honestly think that in any other industry that would be illegal - literally paying companies to not ship products to your rivals, but the gaming industry is a complete joke and will never be held up to any real standards. It's a wasteland of filth really, and Epic are just another bloated pile of Skag crap trying to force you to step in it. See what I did there? :D :D :D

It's a shame too, of all the companies to be comparable to EA/Activision I'd of ranked Epic and Blizzard the lowest, but the last year happened so... Who's next? :(

I suppose the closest other industry analogy might be sports on tv maybe? Where certain sporting events are exclusive to one particular channel and their rivals cannot show it. (BT Sport for Champions League matches, Sky for Formula One etc), though even that isnt entirely comparable as an analogy.

Yeah that's fairly accurate but I'm pretty sure that for example BT Sport doesn't strike a deal to not show it specifically on Sky but more along the lines of 'only us', and often have investments in productions. I'm no expert but the way Epic goes about it, by giving studios lump sums to specifically not sell it on one single competitor's store seems insanely dodgy, they aren't even secretive about it lol.

Best example is obviously console exclusives, which Sony/Nintendo/Microsoft fund and/or develop in house for their own console. That's why nobody cares that all EA games are on Origin as EA own it, or that Fortnite isn't on Steam, because it's Epic's IP exclusively on Epic's store. Unlike games with no affiliation to Epic turning exclusive at the last second, never been done before and is blatant manipulation to damage competitors, rather than offering actual competition.

To quote somebody who is much better at not waffling on then I am... They are just trying to brute-force their position instead of actually offering a good experience.

I don’t want my ******* data in the hands of tencent and thus the Chinese government, it’s that simple.

It’s not ‘hurr durr anti this’ cause some fat bloke on YouTube said so.

Let's face it, the Chinese government probably already have your data, if they want it...
It's by far the least concerning aspect of the Epic store for me.

Doesnt even bother me who has my data, anyone that wants it can have it if they want. Its not like I do anything interesting with my PC. I dont bank on it, I dont facebook, I dont instagram, I dont book holidays on it. I must have the most bland and uninteresting data in the country. If someone wants to have it , they're welcome to it. Certainly doesnt bother me enough to miss out on a really good game that I want.

Then they can pay for it, I’m certainly not going to pay them to do so.

You’re also ignoring that the current situation may only be the beginning of the matter, if things got really bad and your computer was at risk from an enemy state, perhaps botnetting, you’re willingly helping them.

But ayo, that clearly will never happen, so just enjoy depraved business practices instead. Like potentially scanning your steam folder for no reason, because that’s cool.

/outrage for no reason clearly, fake mad  I just won’t surprised when the huawei hysteria creates a gravity around anything that’s connected to supreme pooh bear Xi

As above, they can scan my steam folder if they want, its not like it has anything particularly interesting in it. Might help them cure their insomnia I suppose. As for business practices, hell if I was to stop having things because of a companys business practices, I wouldnt fly on hardly any airline, I wouldnt have sky, I wouldnt eat takeaways, I wouldnt shop at almost any retail company, I wouldnt use hardly any taxi firm, I'd essentially never get an MOT, there would be a gamut of movies that I wouldnt watch because of a certain actor/actress/director. I'd basically end up hardly doing anything. Not unless I was willing to bend those principles for one thing and not another and if I would be willing to only apply a principle to certain things then its not really worth me having the principle in the first place.

Thats all just me of course, everyone is different and I have no issue with anyone who doesnt want to buy a superb game because its exclusively on origin/battle.net/epic/uplay/steam for whatever reason they choose. Its their choice and doesnt affect me getting hundreds of hours of fun out of the games when I buy them, so thats ok :)

Hopefully there's a foil hat collectors edition for you.

Edit: God knows what Steam collects about me, and they could be as much the enemy as the Epic store in the future world of doom.
I just don't want any more clients and storefronts.

Hopefully there's a foil hat collectors edition for you.

Won’t be buying it from a potential belligerent communist state that’s for sure.

Then again to take this back on topic, I’m worried after all of gearboxes issues over the past decade if they’ve learned not to be ***** over issues like defrauding a publisher and being bitter about battleborn. That perhaps there are unfortunate features in this game.

Anyone else quite like the claptrap rap before the stream?

I thought it was pretty solid lol.

Anyway, trailer was exactly as I hoped. Looks like a new borderlands game! If it aint broke, dont fix it, right?

A release date would have been nice, but sounds like we will probably get that in a few days, and I've been considering playing the first borderlands game this last month, as I only played it for like 10 hours or so a free remaster is fantastic news!
